Hey folks, thinking of spinning up classes again as the season moves forward. Send me a PM if interested. I've only been doing privates for a year now - perhaps it's time. So far, Tuesday evenings would be my free time. Thoughts?

How we all feel after not training Nunchaku for a few months?

05/05/2022

Good Morning everyone. I trust that you are all maintaining your training and that you are gearing up for an enjoyable summer.

It's been a while and I was doing a little bit of reading this morning and was inspired to post.

Many parents bring me their children and ask if I can teach them "discipline". What this often means is that a parent can't bring themselves to "punish" their children when improper behavior occurs. Furthermore, when a parent actually can find the fortitude to apply a consequence to a child's behavior, it results in the parents keeping the kids home from class as the "punishment". Can you see how counter-productive this can be?

My children will tell you that I firm but fair. Consequence or reward is applied to the corresponding behavior. Let's work together to reframe "punishment and discipline".

Besides, none of these kids came with a manual!

All the best, Pierre

Hi Everyone,

Today some restrictions were lifted on gyms, which is apparently the category of organization we fall into according to the government. While I understand that we could reopen at 50% capacity, I have chosen to hold back. Last year, if you'll recall, we were permitted to open for all of 5 classes in April before further restrictions were put in place and I had to suspend training. This is exceptionally hard on the junior students, and does no good to the adults either.

My suggestion is that you keep training at home. You may feel that your growth has been stunted, but it only slows down if YOU chose to slow down.

I am open to the idea of a few private classes but this will depend on scheduling.

I understand that you may be disappointed. Believe me when I say that it brings me no pleasure. Any of you who know me know that I've been training for over 25 years now. I can only hope that when we do pick back up that class attendance ramps up, and that closures and restrictions will be a thing of the past we can all look upon and appreciate. Training is a privilege we all take for granted sometimes.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, please get vaccinated to protect yourself and those you love. Block out the rhetoric and keep the target in sight. This is a reminder that proof of vaccination for EVERYONE will be required when we go back to class, no exceptions.

Looking forward to when we can train again.

Warmly, Pierre T. Roy

Wait for the it. 01/13/2022

I always encourage you to treat a target like an opponent. Bow before you strike, and maintain a proper stance, with your hands up. If not, you could end up like this... Watch it to the end....

Wait for the it.

Good Afternoon everyone. By now, most of you have probably heard that return to school has been suspended at the very least until the 17th. Further restrictions have been placed on restaurants, gyms, and other indoor venues, and as a result, Northern Dragon classes are also suspended until further notice.

If you haven't already, I am publicly encouraging you all to get vaccinated if you are eligible. This isn't about politics, this isn't about opinion. You all know I want to respect you and your feelings. We all need to pull together if we eventually want to dig ourselves out of this. Effective immediately, ALL students and visitors who are ELIGIBLE to be vaccinated will NEED to be vaccinated to attend the dojo. This is not up for debate. Proof of vaccination will be required BEFORE attended classes when we do reopen. Please don't put me in the position to turn you away. I want to respect your position, please respect mine.

Please follow the page for further updates.

Stay strong, stay safe, and stay committed.

Pierre
