Traditional Highland Dancing teaches timing, technique and turnout with age appropriate attire. With ample opportunities to compete, perform and participate in BATD medal testing this dance method develops a dancer physically and mentally. All in a fun atmosphere.

Highland dancer alert!

07/04/2021

Did you know that Highland dancing is mainly a solo form of dance? Well there are a few duet quad and group dances, for the most part a Highland dancer is performing solo.

And these days were social distancing is the norm and most people want to continue that until they are fully comfortable this will be a great form of exercise for your young dancer.

Lessons will be socially distanced. Registration is limited. If you are interested in more information please contact me via messenger and we can have a chat.

Well, a year and a bit later and we might just be seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Lessons have been on hiatus due to the pandemic.

I am hopeful that we can return to class this autumn. If so I will be hosting a 10-week introductory/beginner session.

This will be on Wednesday evenings. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for ages 7 to 12 yrs. Location will depend on # of registrants. No previous dance experience necessary. Space will be limited to 12 dancers.

If you would like to get your potential highland dancer on the waiting list, please indicate your interest in the comments below.

A message from the President of ScotDance Canada.

"We are facing very difficult and emotional times at present with the ever-evolving changes around the
COVID-19 Virus epidemic. ScotDance Canada is keeping everyone in our highland dancing community
top of mind and close to our hearts. Please know that ScotDance Canada is here to offer support to its
members and our extended highland dancing community within Canada and worldwide wherever we
are able. As we navigate through these difficult times, we have an enormous opportunity, and that is to
support each other as best we can as a highland dancing community. The little things very much are put
into perspective when we are faced with much larger challenges. Reflecting on the many years I have
been involved in highland dancing, it is the support and friendship that matter most in times such as we
are all facing.
In order to provide much-needed guidance from on-going COVID-19 governmental health advisories as
they pertain to our highland dancing community, ScotDance Canada has formed an Emergency Task
Force. The mandate of this task force is to analyze and review the most current health advisories
providing immediate guidance and recommendations for our dancers, professionals, competition
organizers, and dance parents. In Canada, events up to the end of April in Canada have been cancelled
and/or postponed. We are providing regular updates on our website (www.scotdance.ca) and social
media sites as to further cancellations and/or postponements of our sanctioned events. Entry fees will
be refunded for events already cancelled and entry fees will be refunded upon request for events which
have been postponed. I’d like to thank everyone who has posted such kind words of support for our
competition organizers—I am sure they appreciate this very much.
Today, online registrations opened for the SDCCS 2020 event in Kamloops. What a show of support for
not only the hosts of this event, but to the entire highland dancing community to have 400+ entries
processed in 90 minutes! I’d like to congratulate the hosts of SDCCS 2020—this week has certainly has
been a difficult time with many revisions to health and travel advisories (and a glitch in the online
registration system), however, through all of this, the hosts have shown tremendous amounts of
patience, graciousness, positivity and perseverance!
Through these times where we must all be feeling a bit isolated and overwhelmed; it is so important to
stay connected even if we cannot be there in person. Do not be afraid to reach out for support whether
it is within the highland dancing community or through support networks where you live. We live in a
time where our world has become smaller with so many ways to reach out electronically—let’s continue
to stay strong, connected and unified! "
