Timmins Minor Hockey Association The Corporation is currently better known as the Timmins Minor Hockey Association or TMHA.
Although hockey has been played in the City of Timmins since the early 1920s, the TMHA was officially incorporated on July 28th, 1995 under the name Timmins Minor Hockey Rep System. The TMHA consists of one part time Administrator, a Scheduler, 13 Board members and approximately 165 Hockey Canada qualified team officials whose primary duty is the safety, supervision, administration and training fo
r 33 teams including 500 minor hockey players in the City of Timmins. The TMHA is a sub-component of the Northern Ontario Hockey Association (NOHA), Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and ultimately Hockey Canada (HC) and represents both tier one competitive hockey as well as tier 2 recreational hockey players. TMHA is responsible for male and female players between the ages of 4and 17 years of age. The objectives of the TMHA, as written in the organization’s current Constitution, is to “promote, convene, set policy and administer leagues for the purpose of providing both competitive and recreational hockey for minor hockey players within the boundaries of the City of Timmins in cooperation with the Department of Park and Recreation, City of Timmins.”
Generations of Timmins families have grown up playing hockey. These families all share fond memories of their time on the ice and all the benefits that came out of it. Timmins residents love hockey, it is not mystery that it is our official national winter sport. TMHA continues to be invested in community hockey, as there are numerous benefits to kids such as learning skills that enhance agility, strength and dexterity. It is a healthy and positive setting to meet others. Players learn sportsmanship, teamwork and how to take risks. They also get to have fun and continue the tradition of Timmins Hockey. The TMHA is part of a larger collective and has a significant membership which includes players, coaches, administrators, Board members, local sponsors, volunteers, parents and officials. Participants in the TMHA work together to create a positive and enriching environment where individual and group learning flourishes and certain shared values are embraced.
