Sven Moore, shares what his experience living as a transgender man:

“I’m still learning what it means to be myself. I’m definitely outspoken and a free spirit. I love people, I’m an empath and I love being outside. I grew up always camping, and always felt so rooted in nature. When I discovered how I identify, I underwent some medical procedures to become who I truly am—and this felt so freeing. This is how I feel being out in nature—free.

I lived a lot of my life stealth. To me, that’s living as who you are perceived to be. I identify as a man, I’m going to live as a man. But because of my privilege, I ‘pass’ as male. lululemon was my first job that I’ve been “out” in. Until I came out and used my privilege for good, I took a very passive stance—probably due to fear or shame. Trans people, especially Black trans people, are dying because people like me are not visible and putting our narrative out there. Transgender and non-binary folks have always had a voice, they just need people to listen. They need a platform.

I’ve been privileged to be able to physically transition. Yes, it’s been hard and costly financially, physically and emotionally. However, it was possible for me to do this. I don’t want to be a white saviour or anything. I just don’t want circumstances to be impossible for BIPOC folks to get the help I was able to get. I know I’m only one person, but I want to act more and help create change. I want to donate more and hold others accountable to helping.

A quote that has stuck with me is: “We’re not born winners, we’re not born losers, but we are born choosers.” I’ve learned that every day is a choice and that I can choose to move forward.”
