HUMANS OF CHI: STEPHANIE MOONEY
HEALTHCARE LEADER + 10 YEAR CHI MEMBER
“I first started coming to Chi J***y in 2016. I was going through a really difficult time in life career-wise, relationship-wise. I was looking for a way to come back to myself. I felt a little unsteady I guess at that period. So, I didn’t come in with big intentions, I just knew I needed something that would help me feel more grounded in my body and in my head. And after the first couple of classes, it just felt like this was a place where I could just breathe. What keeps me coming back all these years is the studio and the practice have never asked me to be anything more than where I am at in that moment. So, it’s definitely become a healing place for me in more ways than one. It’s a place where I can always show up either strong or exhausted or heartbroken or joyful and feel steady even when life isn’t. I’ve gone through different phases, and as the different chapters of my life approached, I always seem to lean into the types of practices that speak to me in that moment. Whether it’s softness, so a lot of slow flow classes. Over the past few years, I’ve been going through a lot of relationship trauma, so I’ve only been able to do the slow flows. But as I’ve started feeling stronger again in myself, I’ve started to go back into strength training and to more of the faster power classes. So, I guess I love anything that just connects breath to movement and brings me out of my head and back into my body. What I love most best about the Chi J***y community is it’s always been a very welcoming and safe space. I’ve met so many different people from all walks of life, and everybody just feels so comfortable and welcoming in the space. This place is one of the few consistent places that I’ve had in my adult life. No matter what’s happening outside, Chi J***y is a place that stays calm and steady for me.”
