The things you get up to on a rainy Sunday afternoon....

This little study session really highlighted for me how Soma Training inhabits a unique space between manual therapy and restorative exercise. You do the exercises, and after you're done, you feel like you had an osteo treatment.

As Guy always said,
"You are your own best therapist."
And he really meant it.

He developed the Soma Training techniques (ELDOA, myofascial stretching, segmental strengthening, etc) so that people in pain could help themselves. And so that therapists could offer at-home exercises that made the effects of the treatment last.

Anyway, a fun day and a moment of gratitude for Guy, who passed away in 2024. Thank you, Guy, for this powerful, profound body of work! πŸ™πŸΌπŸ₯°πŸŒŸ

Do you know Squat?

Soma Training: Squat & Posturology has been hailed by personal trainers and physios as the course that changed the way they look at the body.

It's not about learning to squat. (Though we will do many of them!)

It's about learning how to look at the body from a fascial perspective, to see how it's all connected, and address the cause (vs the symptoms) of imbalance or injury.

It's about watching how your client organizes their body in gravity, with or without load, and being able to create a plan to get them out of pain or improve their performance.

It's about learning dozens of ways to squat, depending on your goal as a trainer or therapist.

This simple exercise, when used with a biotensegrity approach, can help you spot underlying imbalances, address postural strength and alignment, and rehabilitate injuries (ACL repairs, herniated discs, etc).

This course is a great continuing education tool for and anyone who uses exercise to help people move better and with less pain.

Friday seems like a long time ago!

Here's Day One of Segmental Strengthening for the Abs and Thoracic Diaphragm... It began with some clinical reasoning and getting to know the parameters of the work for each client we engage with.

We were also getting to know each other! πŸ₯°
