On Sunday, March 15th, nine young Georgian Bay Coyotes travelled to the Toronto Track and Field Centre at York University to take part in the United Tamil Sports Club 20th Year Jubilee Meet. Over 580 athletes from 49 different track clubs across Ontario participated in this prep meet, and it was a great opportunity for our local athletes to test their training before the MTA Provincial Championships in just under a month’s time.
The day was quite a success for our nine Coyotes. They brought home valuable racing experience along with eleven medals and three ribbons. Our small team also racked up enough points to rank eighth out of twenty-one teams, quite an achievement for such a small group of athletes.

On the weekend of February 27 to 29, York University hosted the Canadian Indoor Track and Field Championships. The event was open to athletes in Grade 8 and above who had met the qualifying standards. More than 1,050 athletes registered to compete in this prestigious national competition, including Georgian Bay Coyote Richard Saunders….
As the race unfolded and competitors began to fatigue, Richard moved up strategically, making several strong passes and keeping himself in contention. With a surge over the final lap… shaving an impressive 19 seconds off his previous personal best.
Twenty-five U16 athletes competed in the event, and Richard’s time ranked him 17th overall….
It was exciting to witness Richard’s debut on the national stage, and coaches look forward to seeing what the future holds for this promising young runner.

On Saturday January 17, five of the Georgian Bay Coyotes athletes trekked to the Toronto Track and Field center to take part in the NextGen Indoor Championships…. Our young athletes had their own achievements to boast about…. All in all, this season opener was a great experience for our local athletes who continue training and racing through some very tough conditions. Personal bests are not typically abundant at the beginning of a season, but these five young Coyotes brought home six of them and two medals to boot. A job well done.
