Let's talk shoulder health. The shoulder is an incredibly mobile joint, aka a ball in socket joint (as opposed to the knee or the elbow, which are hinge joints). This means that we have access to tons of different movements: abduction and adduction (both laterally and horizationally), flexion and extension, internal and external rotation, and circumduction. All just a fancy way of saying: move your shoulders! Keep them healthy so you don't pull something while putting on your winter coat or your seatbelt.

As we wrap up 2021, we want to take a moment to reintroduce our head coach and new owner, Nsuani. With over a dozen years of experience in the industry, Nsuani is a champion of personal coaching/group fitness as a career not just a side hustle. He comes from a background of competitve football, and has run a few businesses himself before stepping into an executive role at one of the big fitness chains in Canada. Now the Ferris gym floor is where you can find him, training clients, running classes, and trying to build the best community possible here at Yonge and Davisville.

What's the point in doing a workout if you're doing it incorrectly? Unfortunately, this is something we see often. Proper form isn't just for show, it is imperitive to getting you the results you want.
Take the Bird Dog for example. It's a great all-levels core exercise that looks easy but is often fumbled. Here's how to perfect it:
Let's start with the set up - get into a table top (hands and knees) position, with hands stacked right under your shoulders, and knees right under your hips. Brace your core, pack your right shoulder, and slowly extend your right arm and left leg. Your core should be keeping you stable - don't cheat yourself by letting the spine come out of a strong neutral position and lifting the leg with the lower back. Remember, you should feel your glute when you extend your leg! Train hard, train smart.
