Since 2007, Girls Just Wanna Box (GJWB) has been dedicated to empowering girls and women through boxing and teaching them how to First at Florida Jack's with week- long workshops then at Clancy’s Boxing Academy as the heart of the gym from 2012-2018, then independently at Mind-set S&C, while simultaneously alongside InsightX Boxing. Over the years, GJWB has coached thousands of women to box & built a powerful community for women and girls in boxing. Classes, sparring sessions, fight cards, teen programs, and even launching virtual training during the pandemic to stay connected and support members through a challenging time.

Driven by passion and purpose, GJWB has always focused on making boxing accessible to all, whether for fitness, fun, or competition. The impact of this community has been profound, reaching thousands of women and fostering strength, confidence, and connection through the sport we love. 🥊 After much consideration, Coaches Kristina and Helene have made the difficult decision to close the gym side of the business, with the final day of classes on May 30. Classes will continue as usual until then, and the team encourages everyone to make the most of the remaining class time together. With one last SUNDAY FUNDAY sparring at the location.

While the physical gym is closing, GJWB is not ending—it’s evolving. The next chapter will focus on expanding impact through events, workshops, equipment, and coaching development. The vision is to empower more women to open their own spaces and continue growing the sport within supportive, female-led communities & gyms. We are leaning into the Level 5 of our program and helping create the lead-hers!

Coaches and both express deep gratitude to everyone who has been part of the gym journey (IYKYK) —whether attending classes, participating in events, or supporting the community. Members are encouraged to continue their boxing journeys at trusted local gyms and stay connected through GJWB’s social channels. This is not goodbye—it’s the beginning of something new. 💫

Happy 👊💜 We celebrated yesterday with a super fun class featuring both coaches and - everyone left smiling and a sweaty mess! 💦🥵 Tag yourself in the comments so we can add you to the post & an emoji that described the class and your thoughts regardless if you made it on IWD!

GJWB is the embodiment of empowering women and our youth to stand in their power and presence for their health & mental wellness.

In 2026 this is even more important ~ International Women’s day calls on us all to think about the below themes and the urgency of the chaos in the world today.

"Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls," focusing on dismantling barriers to equal justice, while the broader campaign theme is "Give to Gain," emphasizing collective giving (resources, time, voice) to empower women and girls for societal gain. Both themes highlight the urgent need for action against discrimination, violence, and inequality to ensure progress for all women globally.

In honour of Black History Month, we want to make notable mention of 3 female black boxing pioneers 🖤💜.

All 3 of these women will be in attendance at the 2026 International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHOF).

🖤 Ronica Jeffrey - -
She's an amateur 3x Golden Gloves champion. As a professional, she's a world champion with 5 belts: NABF, WIBF, WIBA, WBC SILVER, WBU. Her professional boxing record is 17-1-1. She now coaches out of the famous Gleason's Gym in New York. This year she will be inducted into the IWBHOF.

🖤 Melvina Lathan- -
In 1991, after many years of amateur boxing affiliation, and completing an extensive professional judging apprenticeship, she became the first African American Female licensed by the State of New York, and would later become the first female to ever head the State’s Athletic Commission. This year she will be inducted into the IWBHOF.

🖤 Laila Ali - -
She made her ring debut at 21 years old, the second youngest child of the great Muhammad Ali. She was a professional boxer from 1999-2007. During her career, from which she retired undefeated, she held the WBC, WIBA, IWBF and IBA female super middleweight titles, and the IWBF light heavyweight title. She was inducted into the IWBHOF in 2015 and will be this year's keynote speaker!

The IWBHOF ceremony is taking place once again in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 10, 2026. Visit www.iwbhf.com to read more about these incredible women above and the other 2026 inductee & special award recipients.

Thank you to Sue Fox & the WBAN for sharing these women's stories and biographies and celebrating their accomplishments.

We look forward to celebrating these women above in the fall! ✨️🥊

Tomorrow night is a huge moment for our community. 🥊✨Girls Just Wanna Box is being featured in a full episode of Breaking Down Barriers, airing on Season 3 tomorrow night on TSN 3 at 7:30 EST!

This episode shines a national spotlight on women’s boxing, athletes, coaches, and the power of creating space where women can train, compete, and lead unapologetically.

It’s more than an episode - today where women’s sports are finally being acknowledged there is a gap featuring all things in the fight game. Spaces and events created by women are not being acknowledged or seen as much and we are hoping to lead the charge to change that!

It’s recognition of how far GJWB has come since its inception in 2007 and of course how far women’s boxing has come historically, and where it’s going next. The future of boxing is bright and women are at the centre.

We couldn’t be more proud, more grateful, or more excited.

👊💞Tune in. This one matters. 2026 let's go!!!!

Thank you to all who put us forward (SARAH STOVOLD) and a huge thank you to Karen Zylak(Writer/Director) who took so much time and care with our story. Thank you to all of the S-Media team for everything you do to tell the untold stories in sport!

Watch every episode on
So inspiring!! ❤️

🥊🎉Today marks the moment as CHRISTY 🩷🎬️ hits theatres — a powerful and electrifying biopic dedicated to the life and legacy of boxing legend - Christy Martin.

Without there would be no GJWB, as Coach Kristina was inspired to get in the ring by seeing Christy Martin’s fight on a Mike Tyson undercard that took place on March 16, 1996, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

This film is a must see and there is massive Oscar buzz around it as all performances are epic (even the dog playing Champ!). Coach has been lucky enough to meet Christy and her now wife Lisa (also portrayed in the movie - their story is amazing) many times at the International Women’s Boxing hall of fame over the years as GJWB is a sponsor. Kris was lucky enough to hang with the team during TIFF and the premiere this past September and her thoughts were:

“This gut-wrenching movie will have you screaming, cheering, crying, laughing and being outraged for a good part of it. What this showcases is the most extreme versions of grooming in women’s sports by a coach and the sickness that is domestic abuse. Christy is one of the toughest women out there inside the ring and out. What she stands for and does by just existing - will inspire everyone! Don’t walk RUN to see this film this opening weekend!”

🎥Christy Martin is portrayed by Sydney Sweeney who transforms herself into a badass boxer beautifully. The film chronicles Martin’s rise from West Virginia coal-town roots to dominating a male-dominated boxing world, breaking barriers and rewriting the rules of sport for women. The story doesn’t stop at her victories in the ring—Christy’s survival of a life-threatening personal fight adds raw emotional depth, making this more than a sports film. With its launch, the cultural impact is immediate: it reignites conversations about women’s boxing, resilience against the odds, domestic abuse and the fight for respect and recognition inside and outside the ring.

🚨 Giveaway!!! What is your stance❓

Your stance is the position you are in when you are
not actively punching or moving. This is where you
want to return to, its your home base.
Your STANCE defines where your feet and hands are placed, the direction & angle of your hips, shoulders, and head.

Why is it important❓ If your stance is not optimal
you will be imbalanced. You will not be able to
maximize your power punches and can easily loose
balance. As a boxer your STANCE is the foundation
for everything.

There are two typical boxing stance positions:
Orthodox– right hand dominant
Southpaw– left hand dominant
Traditionally you are asked to stick to one stance but as boxing has evolved many today switch between both!

Learn more & grab our FREE PDF on your stance - link in bio!
It's week 1 of our 4 Week Boxing FUN-damentals PDF.

👊 Let us know what is your stance below & we will be giving away the full Four Week Training PDF.
