The King of Guard Retention: The Running Recovery 👑
If an opponent aggressively throws your legs aside, a standard hip escape isn’t going to save you. You need to chase the space.
Here is the blueprint for the Vale Tudo Guard Running Recovery:
⚡ 1. Seal the Wall: Instantly connect your elbow to your knee on the passing side.
⚡ 2. Clear the Angle: Kick that top leg over, using the momentum to pivot your hips and "run" ahead of their pass.
⚡ 3. Re-Center: Drop back to your spine and put them right back inside the lines of your hips.
Simple. Efficient. Bulletproof structure. 🛡️

Stop Getting Collapsed: The Rollover Defense 🛑
When someone tries to throw your legs to the side from standing guard, your instinct is to panic and let your whole body collapse. That's exactly what they want.
The fix? Counter-rotate.
As they throw your legs one way, make your lower body heavy and turn your upper body away from the pass. This buys you the split second to kick your top leg over, catch their hip, and immediately re-establish your guard.
Don't accept the pass—neutralize the angle.

On the mats this morning, we’re breaking down the standing open guard. The mission? Keep your legs between you and the opponent without ever losing connection. If you control the distance, you control the damage.
Master Rickson Gracie always stresses the true purpose of the guard. It’s not a fancy sport trick to score points or look cool for Instagram. Here we follow the JJGF strict standards!
In a tournament, if your guard gets passed, you lose points. In real life, if a bad guy passes your guard, you’re exposed to strikes and life-threatening situations. The guard is designed to "guard" your life.
This is real Budo. This is real Gracie Jiu-Jitsu!
