The Trail Smoke Eaters family is deeply saddened by the passing of Tiger Milburn, a true Trail hockey legend.

For more than 50 years, Tiger was the voice of hockey at Cominco Arena, bringing passion, professionalism and understated flair to every game, regardless of who was on the ice. From minor hockey to Junior A, international competition and the Allan Cup, he welcomed generations of players and fans to the rink — announcing names that included Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Béliveau, members of the Soviet national team and Team Canada.

Tiger was a volunteer, a friend, a storyteller and above all, someone who loved his community and its hockey. His iconic “Woo-hoo!” can still be heard throughout the arena on game nights, and his voice and legacy will continue to echo through Cominco Arena for years to come.

The entire Trail Smoke Eaters organization will miss his warm smile, friendly demeanor and unmistakable presence at the rink. A legendary volunteer and even better friend.

Rest in peace, Tiger.

We couldn’t wrap up our staff introductions without recognizing Rich and Annie Murphy, Trail Smoke Eaters Team Presidents and Owners.

Rich and Annie are truly the backbone and spirit behind the team. Their commitment goes far beyond hockey—they are deeply invested in our players, staff, volunteers and fans, as well as the entire Trail community.

Whenever they can, Rich and Annie make their way back to Trail to attend community and hockey events, connect with people, and enjoy some of the outdoor activities the Kootenays have to offer, including skiing and snowshoeing.

Their passion for hockey, their generosity and their genuine love for the Trail community is evident in everything they do. They have helped build more than a hockey team—they have helped build a community and a Smokies family.
