Your lilac just finished blooming. Now the important part begins.

What you do in the next few weeks — specifically with those spent flower clusters and the oldest woody branches — decides what next spring looks like.

Most people do nothing. The full guide for what to do instead is in the first comment, including the fix for a lilac that's been ignored for years.

We’re launching the PoCo Community Foundation 50/50 — and this is your chance to have some fun while giving back to the community we all care about!

For years, the Foundation has supported local programs that strengthen our community — from food security and mental wellness to youth initiatives, seniors programs, arts, culture, education, and healthcare supports.

Now it’s your turn to join in!
✨ Buy a ticket.
✨ Spread the word.
✨ Help make an even bigger impact.

And hey … you might even walk away with HALF the jackpot, which is just over $1,000.

Every ticket helps support local charities delivering much-needed services right here in our community. Who's in?

for a presentation from Rob Sabo on figs!
Rob is a high school shop teacher in Surrey. He grew up building and growing things since he was large enough to walk. A few years before COVID he became interested in rare or interesting fruit and then heavily into fig cultivation as well as a number of other less common fruits and berries. Currently he has between 150 and 200 small trees, about 2/3 of which are figs of one sort or another. Currently he is one of the admins for the “BC Fig Growers” group on FaceBook!
Rob will cover:
The origins of the fig
Types of figs
Requirements for growing a fig
Requirements/techniques for cold climate fig growing.
Figs for our region - season length and harvest periods.
Pruning
Propagation methods
