Philomena Farms An multi-species farm focused on the welfare of our animals throughout their life.

Canning season has been in full swing and our garden has been very generous thanks to Kathy and Rob's hard work and care. Vegetables and fruit are from our own garden/apple tree.

We currently have the following available:
- Spaghetti sauce - 500ml - $8.00
- Spicy Salsa (closer to medium heat) - 500ml - $8.00
- Mild Salsa - 500ml - $8.00
- Sweet Chile Sauce (no cayenne) - 500ml - $8.00
- Sweet Chile Sauce (with a touch of cayenne) - 500ml - $8.00
- Apple Caramel Jam - 250ml - $6.00

If you bring a reusable canning jar back (preferably with the ring but no lids needed), we will give you $1 off a purchased jar! This applies year round.

Coming soon:
- Bread and Butter pickles
- Mustard Pickles
- Pepper Jelly
- ? who knows what else we will decide to make!

*Each jar comes with the ingredients list but do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions prior to purchase.

Did you know that our small town of Sussex has two food banks which support the area? The Sussex Sharing Club alone serves approximately 180 families!!

As Christmas approaches, we are looking to help the Sussex Sharing Club Food Bank provide a "Christmas Chicken" to their clients who otherwise would not likely have a traditional (or any) meal on this holiday. We would like to help them lower the cost of the chickens so that they can use their funds to purchase the many other food items they provide.

In order to help motivate some donations towards this effort, Philomena Farms is providing a Farm Product Box draw (value of $200 and customizable by the winner). Each donation of $10 enters your name into the draw for this box.

Lets work together to help our community!

The draw will occur on 17 October so get your name in by Friday the 16th of October!

Reach out to us to learn how you can also get a tax receipt from the Sharing Club for this donation!

Stock and soup makers!!

If you love to make your own chicken stock or soup, we have chicken carcasses available as well as whole small soup chickens.

Each are about 2-3lbs. Available for $2/lb.

Great value to make your own quality food sources full of nutrients!

The chickens in question were pasture/outdoor raised. The whole birds are our own home grown (no antibiotics, no vaccines or medicated feed) while the carcasses are from meatking chickens (vaccinated from the hatchery, and medicated feed for first 2 weeks).

Always great to be in touch with your local government representatives! We were happy to host our MLA Don Monahan and Shelley Myers Vail to the farm yesterday. We discussed what we do on the farm, in our community and the gaps we are aware of. Also great to hear about his plans for the riding and within the province. Of course, Billie had to be in the picture!

Our apologies for the lack of posts recently! It's been busy and keeping caught up on the computer side of things has fallen behind.

What we've been up to recently (in addition to the regular ongoings of the farm):

💋 We've made peppermint lip balm! (Prompted by running low and refusing to purchase more chemically made ones from the store) Friends and family have tested our first batches, the reviews have been rolling in so this will be a new product available from us soon;
🐷 10 new piglets have arrived on the farm, enjoying being outside and getting more curious and brave everyday;
🐎 The horses got a bit of a break while everyone gets back into the school routine but we've have new students and are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon;
🫧 We've been busy restocking soap. Currently available: Sandalwood, Peppermint, and Lard-Only Unscented. Available in 2-3 weeks: Lavender-Lemongrass, and our Basic Unscented;
🍅 The garden harvest has been going well and canning has begun;
👚New farm swag available for orders! (separate post to come soon); and
🚜We are still doing farm tours if you, your family, or your team would be interested in booking one in while the weather is still (somewhat) warm.

Things to keep an eye out for in the coming weeks:
- The poster for our next breakfast on 26 September (save the date!)
- Farm product bundle draw (fundraising event)
- $50 Pork Boxes coming soon

Community Breakfast - Life at the Lakes

Come enjoy a home-styled cooked breakfast with your friends and family on Saturday, 8 August.

Serving between 830am and 11am, eat in or take out to enjoy the sun!

Please contact us to register before the end of the day on Thursday August 6th to help us plan for enough food. With over 300 attendees last year, we want to make sure we have enough for everyone.
