A Heartbreaking Loss in Our Harness Racing Family

Words cannot begin to express the sadness that has swept through the harness racing community following the tragic passing of Scott Knight.

Tonight, we say goodbye to one of our own. Scott was more than a driver; he was a friend, a valued member of our harness racing family, and a current Director of Harness Racing BC (HRBC), representing the members of our industry with dedication and pride.

His passing leaves a profound void in our community. The racetrack is more than a place where we come together through our shared love of the sport; it is a family, bound by friendships, respect, and a passion for harness racing. Tonight, that family is grieving the loss of one of its own.

With the heaviest of hearts, Harness Racing BC extends its deepest and most sincere condolences to Scott’s family, loved ones, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts are with you as you face this unimaginable loss.

Scott will be remembered not only for his place in our sport, but for the friendships he forged and the lasting impact he leaves on our harness racing community.

Rest peacefully, Scott. You will be deeply missed, never forgotten, and forever part of our harness racing family.

First and foremost, thank you for your unwavering support during the challenges of 2025. Your commitment has kept the spirit of harness racing alive in British Columbia.
As you may know, the City of Surrey decision to close Fraser Downs Racetrack and the governments decision to end slot-machine revenue for horse racing in BC as of January 31, 2026, presents significant challenges. Nevertheless, HRBC is diligently working on the final steps to launch standardbred racing at Desert Park in Osoyoos. Most importantly, securing racing dates for 2026 is our top priority—and we need your help to make it happen.
Why Your Membership Matters:
• Only paid-up members in good standing can receive HRBC incentives and services when it is time to race in Osoyoos.
• Together, we can ensure a new chapter for harness racing in BC.

Just a reminder : BC NEW FOAL INCENTIVE – FOALS OF 2025
All BC Bred 2025 Foals must submit the completed BC New Foal Incentive Application by December 31, 2025; foal must be in the Standardbred Canada database and the mare must be registered with the HRBC Mare Registry in order to be eligible.
DEADLINE: ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN DECEBMER 31st (YEAR OF FOALING) IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE BC NEW FOAL INCENTIVE and MEMBER MUST BE IN GOOD STANDING WITH HRBC TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE INCENTIVE.
