Lawless Health’s pillars and what were built on:

1. Purpose

Helping dads able to keep up with their kids - on the trails, in the mountains, in the water, wherever we go. I want to lose the weight, get rid of the nagging pain, and feel strong and capable again. Not just for me, but so I can be the dad who says yes to adventure, yes to play, and yes to showing up fully—without worrying if my body can handle it.

2. Guidance

No guesswork. Just simple, effective coaching built around your body, your schedule, and your goals. Whether you train at home or in a gym, I’ve got your back with personalised support and clear direction.

3. Autonomy

You don’t need to revolve your life around training. With the right tools and systems, you’ll build confidence, consistency, and results—without sacrificing time with your family.

Over the past 12 months, life’s been FULL - in the best way.

We welcomed our son Xavier into the world (6 months of pure joy, chaos, and learning on the fly), I got married to my incredible wife Carissa (she handled most of the wedding planning magic, let’s be honest), became a Canadian citizen and we squeezed in some travel around BC, the Pacific Northwest & California.

Between coaching, prepping for fatherhood, and navigating all these big life chapters, Lawless Health got pushed to the back burner.

But now I’m back, rebooting with more clarity and purpose than ever.

This space is for dads, who want to move pain-free, lose weight, and get strong enough to keep up with their kids on the trails, in the mountains, and in everyday life.

Excited to share what’s next. Let’s get to work.

3 month checkin with being a dad and general fitness and health.

Priorities have definitely changed.

No longer able to spend a couple of hours in the gym and do multiple sessions per day.

Waking up a couple of times a night can be a challenge.

The past 3 months haven’t been easy.

Having a baby flips everything upside down. Suddenly your sole focus and purpose of your life isn’t yourself but this tiny human being.

But that doesn’t mean you chuck your health and fitness out the window.

It’s been a struggle, I’ve missed session, binged eat at times and had 5 hours of sleep.

But, in general, I’ve remained consistent, tried to be efficient as I can with training, not thrown in the towel when binged eat.

The road isn’t necessarily straight when you’re a new dad and looking after your health.

Understanding it isn’t going to be perfect or the same as what you used to do. But remain consistent, do what you can and be a role model for your baby.

Lower Back Pain from Snowboarding?

As we get older, our body’s become more banged up, stiff and sometimes broken.

This usually has an impact on doing the things we love.

Like backpain half way through the day.

More often than not, lower back pain is caused from something happening above or below it (unless you’ve had a signifcant trauma / direct impact occur).

If we can get your hips and / or Thoracic Spine moving better, your lower back will be able to survive the day on the mountain.

Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing 4 exercises to help your hips move better soon.

We can all remember that time when you were on the mountain, carving down your favorite run, and everything just felt right!

Body was moving with ease, perfect control, and the ride was smooth as butter.

But how long ago was that? Fast forward a to present day you find yourself struggling to get that same flow. Turns don’t feel as sharp, getting up after a fall feels a little slower, and you’re just not as fluid as you used to be.

For a lot of dads over 40, it’s not about being out of shape—it’s those stiff hips that just don’t move like they used to. Which has a knock on effect on challenges our snowboarding performance.

But here’s the good news: it’s not too late to turn things around.

Incorporating mobility work into your routine is one of the best ways to restore movement and strength to those hips. Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) are simple exercises that help you move your hips through their full range of motion, unlocking stiffness and improving flexibility. Try 2 of the exercises from the videos (Video 2-4 are similar, just different variations and the same for Video 5-8). A few minutes a day can make a huge difference in how you feel on the slopes.

It’s been over a year since I reintroduced myself.

2024 flew by, Carissa and I are still in Vancouver, still planning for our wedding in 2025 (6 months to go) and we did a fair bit of travelling. So the next little while, we’re going to quieter things down.

During 2024 we were very fortunate to sneak a few trips up to Whistler, drove from LA to Las Vegas in my dream car, drove from Vancouver to San Fransisco, launched a campervan business, made a trip to France, drove down to the Oregeon coastline, saw Orca’s under the Lions Gate Bridge, worked with international rugby teams, watched our first college football game, stargazed on the Washington coast, hit up the Sunshine Coast, recover from shoulder surgery and spend my birthday in Tofino again.

And while 2024 seemed pretty quiet to me and in comparison to 2023, we are now a family of 3!!

2025 is definitely going to a completely new adventure!

Be prepared for more baby and dad content!

Things I’ve learned in the first week of being a dad:

* The overwhelming emotion when first holding him.

* Nothing goes according to plan. You have to roll with everything. Babies are on their own schedule and time zone.

* It isn’t always easy, but cherish each second, because in a couple of weeks, he won’t be a newborn.

* The power of getting outside, fresh air, and sunlight exposure. Mixing in exercise with this amplifies the impact.

* You can do incredible things with a lack of sleep when taking care of a newborn.

* The importance of having a strong relationship with your partner. You both have to be on the same page and able to communicate, even at 3 a.m. with no sleep.

* Having decent food prepped is huge. We prepped some breakfast wraps in advance, which has helped. Also, Carissa’s family has been here, bulk-making lunch and dinner.

The first week has been an absolute rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

For many dads, the combination of a full time job and home life often leaves you feeling unhealthy, overweight and fatigued.

Everything starts take its toll. You know you need to get into better shape and be healthier.

But the problem is you don’t actually like to exercise.

And that is perfectly fine

You don’t have to go to the gym.

You don’t have to spend hours and hours lifting weights, doing something you don’t enjoy to be healthy to lose weight.

There are two things you can do right now to prioritise your health, get you feeling better and lose a bit of weight.

1. Increase the amount of protein you eat

2. Increase the amount of water you drink

And don’t just do it for 1 week, give it a month and you’ll notice the difference.

* I would also suggest getting some sort of movement in, not exercise though, get outside with your kids, go for a walk or anything that gets you up off the couch.

As we begin to age and spend more time sat down, aches and pains start to creep in. Which then leads to an even more negative effect on our motivation to stay active and keep up with our kids.

This in the long term can have a detrimental effect on our lives.

A sedentary lifestyle is the new smoking.

Don’t let aches and pains slow you down.
