False Creek Masters Dragon Boat Program

On Race Day 4 of the 2026 Club Crew World Championships in Hualien, Taiwan, the Masters had their second day of racing.

In a very tight race that came down to a dragon whisker (a difference of 0.09 sec), the False Creek Masters won a silver medal 🥈 in the 200m Women’s Senior B races, after coming in first in their first heat.

What is EB?
EB is a rare genetic condition in which the skin, and sometimes the mucous membranes (such as the lining of the mouth) blister in response to mild friction or trauma. In the most severe form, called recessive dystrophic EB, the child inherits from both parents an altered gene needed to make the collagen that anchors the layers of skin together. Because the collagen is defective, the outer skin layer separates easily from the deeper layer, forming a blister and a sore.

From Woodles to Worlds it’s been quite a year for the False Creek Masters!

On their first day of racing at the 2026 Club Crew World Championships - the False Creek Masters won a gold medal 🥇 in the 500m Women’s Senior B races, after coming in FIRST in both their first heat AND the Grand Final!

All of the dragonboat practices, OC1, OC6, dryland, P-erg (paddling erg), gym time, fit tests, time trials, and paddle camps are paying off.

Today was just the start, but it feels like a good start!

The False Creek Masters (including our Singapore Six, and coach), are together again!

The team has reunited in Hualien, Taiwan for the International Dragon Boat Federation 15th Club Crew World Championships (CCWC)!

So far, we’ve completed our two practice days, and tonight the team went to the awe-inspiring, Opening Ceremonies, including an athletes’ parade. Next up - it’s time to race!

This event will welcome 5500 athletes and supporters from 21 countries at Liyu Lake, Hualien Country, from August 29 to September 6.

The sun has set on our last practice and our preparations leading up to the IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Hualien, Taiwan.

Some FCM paddlers have already arrived in Taiwan, some are en route, and some will join the rest once they are finished racing in Singapore.

Now we look ahead with anticipation for what the Worlds will hold, and the races and opportunities of the next two weeks. We also look back at all of our hard work, sacrifices, dedication, and effort that got us here.

False Creek Masters, the time is now! Let’s GO!!!

IMPORTANT - BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR “THE SINGAPORE SIX”

This infamous group of BadA** Butterflies, was most recently spotted in and around the IVF Va’a World Sprint Championships in Marina Bay, Singapore.

They have been collaborating with other kicka** women under the aliases of: Ocean Spirit, GFC Nuggets, Wahoos, and Sleni Wave Warriors. Have also been seen in the company of two suspicious males found under their own alias of P360.

Don’t let those smiles fool you.

Approach with Stealth and Speed as the Singapore 6 will leave you in their wash.

This past weekend we sent our “Singapore Six” (Audrey, Dana, Ingrid, Lana, Nora, and Rae-Ella) and two of our coaches (Coach Scully and Coach Will) off to compete in the Singapore IVF Va’a World Sprints Championships 2026.

These powerful paddlers started racing on August 22nd (Singapore time)!
They’ll be racing with the following team names:
*FCRCC Ocean Spirit* (Women’s 50+) - all six ladies.
*GFC Nuggets* (women’s 40+) Rae-Ella, Lana, Dana & Audrey racing with this crew
*FCRCC Wahoos* (women’s 60+) Nora racing with this crew
*P360* (men’s 40+) Scully’s crew
*P360* (men’s open) Will’s crew

As we cheer them on from Vancouver, we are bursting with pride and anticipation, and can’t wait to see the great things they’re capable of!

Had a fantastic weekend at the Vancouver Island Dragon Boat Festival, through the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club, in Victoria July 25 & 26!

The two day regatta consisted of a variety of race formats!

Day 1 began with a 500m race, followed by a 200m back-to-back with a 100m (basically a turn-and-go), and ended with a 100m knockout race that started with 6 teams - in which the FC Masters won gold.

Day 2 started with the 1500m guts and glory, in which the Masters paddled strong to end in first place. Next up was the flag relay - a new experience for the team. The day and weekend ended with a 500m, with the FCM coming in 1st in the Women’s Division Final with a strong time of 2:07.15 (2min 7.15sec) and a gold medal!

This regatta was an excellent opportunity to execute everything we’ve been working on over the past year in preparation for competing in the Worlds in Taiwan in a few short weeks. From our focus both in and out of the boat, our technique, our timing, to pushing through every stroke with the strength and determination we all have.

It was a great weekend of racing, team building, making new friends and catching up with old friends!
