RCC Yablochko Dancers

Did you know our dance director and choreographer Natasha Lozovsky-Burns is also the conductor of the Russian Community Center Balalaika Orchestra? Our concert every year features performances from both, the dancers and the orchestra. Fun fact: some of the music Yablochko dances to was recorded by THIS SAME Orchestra!

This year, in 2026, the Russian Community Center turned 70 years old!!! So of course we had to make our annual concert extra extra special. This year the orchestra performed a few extra pieces than usual, so here is a quick video featuring highlights!!

Of course the audience favourite was the Finnish-Karelian Polka featuring our soloists Dr. Ross Braes on accordion, even the orchestra wanted to get up and dance!!!
Fun Fact: the Finnish-Karelian Polka "Säkkijärven polkka" helped the Finnish army defend against the red army during the continuation war. Finnish engineers discovered that playing a constant, fast-paced tune over certain radio frequencies would confuse radio triggers and prevent Soviet mines from detonating. The Finnish-Karelian Polka was played on repeat for 3 WHOLE MONTHS. It is still considered an unofficial anthem of Finnish resistance!

FINALLY! What we worked so hard for!! Our show at the Russian Community Centre of Vancouver was a success!!! The quick changes were QUICK, the food was YUMMY, the audience was clapping, whilsting, and howling, and we remembered most of the choreography!

The Yablochko Dance Ensemble performed April 26, 2026 at the Russian Community Center of Vancouver, on their native stage!!

Our girls performed in their red boots for the first time, and although it cause major difficulties in changing between numbers, there's nothing our girls can't do!!! As they say: beauty is pain, stress, and anxiety.

This year, we brought back 2 old dances: Topatukha (Stomping Dance) and Doshechki (Little board dance). The boards were hand painted by retired memebers many many years ago, and it was such an honour to dance with them again.

We also performed the Village dance: a traditional horovod, and our signature finale: The Ural Mountain Dance.

Big shootout to Elliott, Branden, Erfan, and Nastya for their RCC debut! We were long overdue for some fresh new smiles on our stage.
