For the month of June, in honour of National Indigenous History Month, we are taking the time to recognize the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada. At Shaughnessy, we are especially proud to recognize and respect our unique connection to the Musqueam People, on whose traditional and ancestral land our Club resides.

On April 15th, eight staff members of our culinary team developed and presented their own signature chicken burger at the inaugural Burger War. It was a great opportunity to showcase individual style, encourage collaboration, and bring some fun, competitive spirit into the kitchen. Five judges voted for the best burger, and the winner’s burger from the competition is being offered to members as one of the May features.
The Outdoor Tennis Courts have been power washed and are open for play.
Spring Aeration was successfully completed on Friday, April 24th. The timing was ideal, and the turf is already showing excellent signs of recovery. This essential work is the foundation of our season, ensuring the root zones are healthy and ready to withstand the demands of the summer months ahead.
The greenhouse this month is as busy as it gets! Plants are being transitioned from glasshouse to plastichouse to outside as the weather warms and space is required. All the plants grown from seeds and cuttings are nearly ready for our summer displays, and it will be exciting to get them off our tables and into the ground. We have started building our hanging baskets over the last few weeks, and we will be transitioning them outside and then up to the clubhouse once they are established enough. We will be testing out several new varieties in both the baskets and summer displays, so look forward to a fresh new look in some areas while the fan favourites are still coming back.

We recently hit a major milestone. April 26th, 2026, marked 115 years since Shaughnessy was officially established in 1911.
At 115 years, what stands out is not just the history, but the number of points where members have made decisions that prioritized the long-term over the short-term.
The course itself, designed by A.V. Macan, was his final championship-length design in Canada and arguably his greatest. That detail is often overlooked, but it speaks to the significance of what was built here. From a championship perspective, Shaughnessy has hosted multiple Professional Canadian Open events, and most recently the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open.
What started as a golf club has steadily expanded over time, most notably with the addition of tennis in 1978, along with continued growth across dining, fitness, and Club events. Rather than one major shift, it has been a steady build that reflects how members use the Club today.

30 years ago today, the world of professional tennis landed right here at Shaughnessy! On April 27, 1996, we kicked off the Fed Cup World Group II tie between Canada and the Czech Republic. It’s been three decades since legendary Jana Novotná showcased her masterclass on our courts.
In the greenhouse this month, everything is on schedule. We have started several thousand seeds of over 15 different species and varieties. We will continue to start more into the spring to have ready for the start of the summer growing season. This is the time of year when we do most of the planning for the upcoming season, though many things are subject to change when it actually comes time.
In the fall, we planted over 16,000 bulbs that have been emerging over the last couple of months. The first daffodils are starting to bloom, and the rest are on their way. We should enjoy some beautiful displays over March and April, which will be a fantastic way to start the season.
During the last couple of months, we have seen some fantastic weather. The days are starting to become noticeably longer, and everything in the garden has been slowly waking up. While we saw our first cherry blossoms out on the back of #5 tee in the first weeks of January, the rest of the cherries and plums on the course have slowly been getting ready to bloom and are finally starting their breathtaking show as we move through March.
