Think you know prefab? Think again.
One of the biggest misconceptions about choosing a prefabricated home is that it means compromising on design. The reality is quite the opposite.
By shifting much of the construction process into a controlled manufacturing environment, prefabrication allows for greater precision, efficiency, and sustainability…without sacrificing aesthetics.
At BHC, we’ve reimagined what prefab can be: modern architecture, thoughtful materials, and clean, timeless design delivered through a smarter building process.
Needless to say, this isn’t your grandma’s modular home. 😉

Overlooking the quiet shoreline of Bark Lake in Ontario’s cottage country stands The Backcountry Hut Company’s most expansive build to date: a 5-Module + Deck System 02 cabin.
Designed as a retreat for gathering, this lakefront cabin comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and generous indoor-outdoor living spaces. A custom charred cedar exterior grounds the home within its natural surroundings, while the dramatic full-height glazing wall fills the interior with light and uninterrupted lake views.
Whether dining beneath the covered porch, hosting family for the weekend, or simply enjoying a quiet morning by the water, this System 02 was designed to create space for connection.

Heat, wood, silence.
This is the after-work ritual.
Where the rhythm slows down.
Where the air is warm and the mind can clear.
Build your own moment of stillness.

What does it mean for a building to belong?
These three cabins offer an answer:
-The Gambier cabin perched on a cliffside.
-The Colorado cabin in the heart of the Rockies.
-The San Juan cabin tucked away on an island.
Each one shows how architecture can coexist with nature — not by dominating the landscape, but by becoming part of it.
