Hopes, dreams, and a conversation across thousands of kilometres.

Earlier this year, Vancouver-based Mary Gao spent six months in Bogotá, Colombia, working alongside public school children through art, English conversation and cultural exchange. Now, some of the artwork created by the children she met has made its way to Britannia.

Hopes and Dreams: The Children of Colombia – All My Gratitude shares their drawings of everyday life, imagination, hopes and dreams and invites our community here in Vancouver to respond with some of our own.

Join Mary for an afternoon in the Britannia Plaza where you can see the work, hear more about the experience, and add your own words and drawings to the conversation. ✏️

Thursday, September 10 | 3:00–4:30pm
📍 Britannia Plaza

Come by, spend some time with the exhibition, and leave a little piece of your own hopes and dreams behind.

As part of Greenway Gathering and Honk!BC, join us on Saturday, August 29th from 1:00 to 3:30pm for some art making with Indigenous community artist, teacher, musician, and activist Brenda Koch. It will be a playful all-ages workshop inspired by Everybody Needs a Rock by Byrd Baylor.

Participants will choose an ordinary stone, look at it a little more closely, and transform it into a one-of-a-kind companion using paint pens, craft materials, found objects, and plenty of imagination.

With Brenda, Greenhorn musicians, and other artists on hand, this is a chance to make something a little silly, create together, and slow down long enough to notice the place and natural world around us.

All ages are welcome. Come spend some time on the Greenway and find a rock that feels like yours.
