Former UFC Champion George St. Pierre will be acting as an ambassador of the sport of Olympic wrestling at the Urban Games, a public, outdoor event, in Montreal, Quebec on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

The Vancouver Wrestling Club's (VWC) Board of Directors has cancelled the 6th Annual - 2018 Vancouver International Wrestling Festival (VIWF) due to this years lack of resources and capacity. It takes an enormous amount of financial and volunteer support to put on such a high profile event and our 2018 efforts fell short on what was needed to host it properly. A review will be done in the coming months though with the hope the event will return in 2019.

The VIWF is a celebration of the sport of wrestling through competition held annually in front of the iconic Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) and at UBC Robson Square in the downtown core. It was created in 2013 as a response to the International Olympic Committees' motion to remove the sport from the Olympic Games.

The event has enjoyed tremendous success and each year has attracted over 125 male and female athletes from all over North America. Many of whom are top youth and college wrestlers. This includes BC, Washington, Oregon, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Mexico. It has also attracted over 1200 spectators who attend the celebration of the sport throughout the day.

The City of Vancouver is putting the finishing touches to the retrofit of the Vancouver Art Gallery - North Plaza. This is great as our 5th Annual - Vancouver International Wrestling Festival will be wrestling there on August 19.

Sissaouri Summer Wrestling Camp in Georgia

Learn from former Canadian National Senior team coach, World Champion & Olympic silver medallist, Guivi (Gia) Sissaouri this summer. Join him in Georgia from Aug 15th - Sep 4th and train and wrestle with the Georgian Cadet and Junior World team.

A great opportunity for anyone (12-21) who is prepared to work hard and wants to be world class. Excellent preparation for anyone who will be competing in the upcoming World Cadet Championships in Greece.

GSG 2017 promo

On May 7, 2017 the Powell Street Festival is hosting a free, Sumo Workshop at the Vancouver Buddhist Temple (220 Jackson).

The Vancouver Wrestling Club is looking for volunteers who will join our board and work to help develop, foster and promote the sport of Olympic wrestling in Vancouver, BC and Canada.

Some of the preliminary goals for the club include fostering opportunities for male and female athletes in competition and coaching, collaborating with the University of British Columbia wrestling program and running our flagship event the Vancouver International Wrestling Festival.

No board experience is necessary but would be an asset. Must be over age 18, be able to commit to one meeting a month and enjoy a challenge. Positions that are open are: President, Vice President, Treasurer and 2 Directors. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to come to the meeting though. The team at the UBC Wrestling technique clinic last night at UBC with Mansour Barzegar, former Iran Head Coach, Olympic silver medallist, 1 X World Champion, 2 X World Silver.

UBC Wrestling is hosting a community clinic and practice with Mansour Barzegar, 1976 Montreal Olympics - Silver medallist, 1973 World Champion and 30 year Iranian National team Men’s Coach on March 21. It'll go from 6 to 8 pm and it'll be hosted by his son Maziar and Ashkan Amirhasani, both technical coaches on our team. The practice will be in the Ballroom of the Old - Student Union Building at 6138 Student Union Boulevard on campus.
