When a cyclist or pedestrian is hit by a car in B.C., what happens next?

Under the no-fault model and Enhanced Care, damage awards are limited. Even if you don't have an auto insurance policy, you become an ICBC customer.

A special legislative committee is leading a review of these rules, and the public has until June 25 to submit written input.

👉 What's worked? What hasn't? What would you change?

📋 Public written input is open until June 25 at 2 pm. Register on the Consultation Portal at the link in the comments.

The B.C. government is reviewing auto insurance laws and ICBC, and they want to hear from you. 🫵🏼

A special legislative committee is accepting public input on no-fault insurance and Enhanced Care. For people who walk and bike on B.C. roads, this matters: these provisions shape what happens after a collision involving a motor vehicle.

What's your experience? Do you have concerns about coverage, claims, or how the current system treats vulnerable road users?

📋 Public written input is open until June 25 at 2 pm. Register on the Consultation Portal at the link in the comments.

17 years. 50 km. $15.5 million raised. And a section opening any day now.

The Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail—affectionately known as SNORT—is one of BC's most ambitious active transportation projects, and the story behind it is just as impressive as the trail itself.

In the latest episode of Bike Sense, Phil McIntyre-Paul breaks down how a CP Rail abandonment in 2009 sparked a messy 17-year journey, how Splatsin leadership changed everything, and how this rail trail is stitching into a bigger Sicamous to Osoyoos cycling corridor that's now closer to reality than ever.

Wherever and however you ride, happy World Bicycle Day from all of us at the BCCC!

Every day, people across BC choose the bike: to commute, to connect, to cut emissions. Today, the United Nations reminds the world what cyclists here already know: the bicycle is one of the most powerful tools we have for healthier communities, cleaner air, and more livable streets.

At BCCC, we're working every day to make sure more British Columbians can make that choice safely.

Celebrate today by riding, advocating, or simply sharing why your bike matters to you. Tell us where YOU'RE riding today in the comments.

A few extra seconds can make all the difference.🚦

Leading interval signal phasing (AKA an "advanced green") lets cyclists clear the intersection before cars start moving. It's a small change with stats to back it up: it reduces injury and death.

This is one of our top asks for B.C.'s Motor Vehicle Act review.

Today's the day! Celebrating the opening of new active transportation pathways connecting us all. 🥳

The multi-use path (MUP) on the east side of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will open to pedestrians and cyclists in both directions. Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to follow directions from traffic control personnel while bridge finishing works continue.

Construction is ongoing; the path on the west side of the bridge is scheduled to open this summer.

The multi-use path (MUP) on the east side of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge will open to pedestrians and cyclists in both directions on the morning of Monday, June 1. 💪🏼

In it will connect the new overpass across Columbia Street, existing path, and sidewalk network. In Surrey, it will connect to the sidewalk and existing bike routes on the north and south sides of King George Boulevard.

The path on the west side of the bridge is scheduled to open this summer.

We are enjoying the interaction with our Motor Vehicle Act reform posts! We know active transportation inspires big feelings, and we appreciate you sharing your views respectfully. 🤝

Today: A bike lane you can't use isn't a bike lane. 🚴🏻 🚘

We want B.C.'s updated Motor Vehicle Act to include a clear prohibition, and automated fines, for blocking active travel lanes. Because paint on asphalt only works if drivers actually stay out of it.

Take our member survey and tell us what B.C.'s roads should look like. Join BCCC for free for access to the survey. (Link in bio)
