We hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving long weekend! 🧡

We have so much to be grateful for, especially our amazing divers, customers, staff, and everyone in between. Thank you all so much for your continued support over the years. We wouldn’t be where we are today without this incredible diving community!

A huge thank you to Emerald Ocean Charters for taking such incredible care of our divers over the Bamfield weekend! It was an amazing trip, and we’re already hoping to return in 2027. Thank you for helping make it such a memorable adventure!

Throughout the week, we also had our PADI Evening Open Water course, Intro to Scuba sessions, Drysuit Pool sessions, and refreshers. It was a busy week filled with learning, new skills, and plenty of underwater adventures!

Last week was another awesome week at the Diving Locker as we headed into our fall diving season! From local safaris and private dives to specialty courses and certification training, our team had a fantastic week in and out of the water.

Here’s a look at what we got up to:

Monday: Instructor Matthew led our Kelvin Grove safari, getting the week started with some great local diving.

Tuesday: Instructor Dani guided private dives, helping our divers enjoy some time underwater.

Friday: Instructor Sheena ran a private PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course, focusing on improving trim, control, and overall diving skills.

Saturday: Divemasters Justin and Jason led our local safari to Whytecliff Park.

Saturday/Sunday: We had PADI Open Water training with Instructor Karine, alongside PADI Advanced training with Instructor Jordan and Divemaster Trainee Adam.

Sunday: PADI Drysuit Specialty course led by Instructors Morgan and Sheena, taking their diving to the next level of coldwater diving in Drysuits!

A huge thank you to our instructors, divemasters, trainees, and divers for another great week! As we move into the fall season, there are still plenty of opportunities to get in the water, build your skills, and explore our incredible local dive sites.

Happy World Octopus Day! 🐙

One of the most fascinating animals you can encounter beneath the surface, the octopus is basically a walking, thinking, shape-shifting marvel.

🧠 They’re seriously smart. Octopuses can learn, solve problems, remember experiences, recognize individuals and even figure out how to escape situations that would leave most animals completely stumped.

🦑 Eight arms, but not eight ordinary arms. A huge portion of an octopus’s nervous system is distributed throughout its arms. Each arm can process sensory information and perform complex movements somewhat independently of the central brain. Their suckers can even taste and touch what they’re exploring.

🧬 Their RNA is unusual. Unlike most animals, octopuses extensively edit their RNA after it is copied from DNA. This can change the proteins their cells produce without changing their underlying DNA. Researchers have found particularly extensive RNA editing in nervous tissue, and even evidence that octopuses can use RNA editing to adjust neural proteins in response to temperature changes.

❤️ They have three hearts. Two pump blood through the gills, while the third pumps it throughout the rest of the body. And their blood is blue because they use a copper-containing protein called hemocyanin to transport oxygen.

B.C. waters are home to several species, including the Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini), Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) and Smoothskin Octopus (Benthoctopus leioderma)

There’s something pretty incredible about descending into the cold Pacific and finding one of these intelligent, curious animals tucked beneath a ledge, watching you with those unmistakable eyes.

One female spot left for our Similan Islands liveaboard in February 12th - 17th 2027!

If Thailand has been sitting on your dive bucket list, this is your chance to join us for five nights of incredible diving in the Andaman Sea.

We’ll be exploring some of Thailand’s most famous dive sites, including the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock. Expect colourful reefs, dramatic granite formations, schooling fish, macro critters, nudibranchs and, with a little luck, encounters with manta rays and whale sharks.

Trip price: $2,604 CAD + GST

Don’t let cold water stop you from diving!

As we head into the colder season here in BC, water temperatures will begin to drop — making a drysuit a warm, comfortable option for continuing to explore underwater all year long.

Our PADI Drysuit Specialty is offered every week, year-round, giving you the skills and confidence to dive comfortably in a drysuit and extend your diving season.

This is a 2-day course:

🤿 Day 1 — Pool training
Start in the pool where you’ll learn the ins and outs of drysuit diving, including choosing the right undergarments, getting in and out of your suit, proper weighting, buoyancy control, and drysuit-specific skills.

🌊 Day 2 — Ocean diving
Head to one of our local dive sites and put your new skills into practice with 2 ocean dives alongside your instructor.

Your drysuit and basic scuba gear package are included, as well as transportation to and from the dive site.

Whether you’re new to drysuit diving or ready to become more comfortable diving in our beautiful BC waters, this specialty is a great way to stay underwater through the cooler months.
