You can't spell dreams without REM. π

Now that we got the dad joke out of the way. I'd like to share my experience using CBD for the past 6 weeks in the evenings before bed. Before using CBD oil I had a hard time remembering dreams, and since I began tracking my sleep the past year, I noticed the amount of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep I was getting each night was subpar. My subpar number comes from reading into sleep stages and how much should ideally be achieved, and the big reason is what happens during REM sleep that is of high importance. The most critical part is that short term memory gets imprinted into our long term memory database, creativity happens, connections are created between memories, and so on.

Before using the CBD, my average REM during the night would be just north of an hour to an hour and a half. Since using CBD my average REM sleep has been well north of two hours, sometimes eclipsing three hours. That made me blown away at that number, along with me remembering my dreams and the vividness of them.

If we use movement as a distraction, rather than a gateway for exploration from whatβs going on inside of us, then all we have done is shifted the suffering. We will continue to punish our bodies with countless workouts, pushing them to the brink to avoid doing the internal work.

I say this as I have also been there, from doing double day workouts to endless runs, thinking that when it's over, my problems will have somehow faded away and never seen again. Instead, what happens is that more and more cortisol gets pumped into the body due to excess stress. From the problem still bubbling up and from the continuous intensity my body is enduring.

Instead, using movement as a gateway into our mind allows us to release tension in a way the body feels safe and no longer has to hang on with a super-tight grip, activating the parasympathetic nervous system. Some days that may mean intensity in your movement, or it could mean a walk and breathwork. ππ»

You are always evolving.

These photos, taken over two years ago after I took part in the FRC certification, and I must say, my shoulder articulation & health has vastly improved over the past two years. What's changed?

By consistently putting in light work, for a few minutes per day. When the system works, the results show.

Your body is always evolving to the environment. The inputs it gets will equate to the outputs. It is across the board, not just movement specific. Before this, I had always thought of having bad shoulders and weakness. You see how disempowering that language is to use? It kept me from taking action. Once I took action with the correct inputs, BOOM, change occurs over the long term.

Nothing is set in stone. Change the input & the output will change.
β’
If you find yourself feeling stuck, take a look at your inputs. Can any of them be changed? As the saying states, "If nothing changes, nothing changes."

First things first...take note of how this time of year feels for you..in your body.

We get bombarded with ads pressuring us into thinking we need to change to be happy, sip on this latest drink to achieve health, & think of resolutions that carry no meaning or action behind them. All of it pulls us away from what matters most, being in our own body.

Listen, I'll be the first one to raise my hand for leveling up in life, but it's also easy to never stop, look back, and acknowledge the work you've already done. Much learning is done by reflecting on our wins and our missed attempts.

Have you noticed an increase in the marketing for supplement companies lately? Not a surprise, the majority take advantage of people who get told they aren't healthy enough. Yes, there are certain supplements that most people should be taking, like vitamin D3. My point being that you should do your research on what you need, not what a company is telling you you need. See a Naturopath, get a microbiome test, get blood work done, etc. and you'll see what your unique body needs.

Millions of people set resolutions, but the majority don't see them through the first few weeks..why? My theory is that they don't mean much to them, it's a novelty to do this time of the year, or too many "resolutions" are set, which spreads your efforts too thin. Instead, can you ask yourself who you need to become to achieve what you set out to do? Doing this helps you see what actions to take.

Lastly, your time is valuable. Write a TP goal, which means a Top Priority goal. It means you're focused on 1 or 2 goals at a time, max. They are important to you, which means you'll not only take action on it, but you'll also stick with it during trying times because of the meaning you connect it within your life.
