Hello everyone,
I’m incredibly honored to have been invited to teach at the 2025 Modern Cimande Seminar, hosted by my good friend and teacher, G**o Ed Wong.
Although this isn’t a Wing Chun-focused seminar, I’m confident that anyone who attends will gain a wealth of knowledge and have an incredible experience. The best part? It’s local, so there’s no need to worry about traveling or staying in a hotel!
A bit about G**o Ed, as you can see from the event poster, he has a lifetime of martial arts experience and is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate martial artists I’ve ever had the privilege of training with. I first met Ed in 2017 after several friends and colleagues recommended his classes. Since then, training with Ed and his students has been nothing short of transformative for me, both as a martial artist and as a teacher.
Ed’s Urban Survival Systems (USS) classes immediately left a strong impression on me. After earning my Modern Cimande Level 1 certification, I began training with his instructor group and have continued working with Ed and his tribe ever since.
I highly encourage you to join this seminar—you won’t regret it! Feel free to reach out with any questions or to RSVP.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Sifu

Man-o-man, it was a cold one today, but banded together and trained anyways! That’s what I call pure Canadian Kung Fu, Toques and Butterfly Swords!

BATTLE PUNCHES! One thing we love about dragon pole training, is training the horse stance. Not only is it a great way to build a better base, but it’s a killer workout too.

Before and After photos. One’s own mental state is one of the biggest determining factors in a self defence situation. So sometimes effective training is as much about learning to focus as it is about kicking and punching. Or it is as much about building the strength of one’s mind as it is about building a strong body.

Pensive practice. We have spent the last few months training the Luk Dim Boon Gwan, or Dragon Pole and as we prepare to move onto our next unit, we are taking the time to do some introspective practice, taking stock of what each of the techniques and sequences mean for each of us respective to our current practice. Over the years I have found that each of the Wing Chun forms has taken on new meaning as I myself have grown and expanded as a martial artist. Much like how one’s interpretation of a book might evolve upon subsequent readings.

I had a great time at the seminar today, hosted by the incredible I learned a lot today, not just about technical sparring, but also about having the right mindset for training. Can’t wait for the next one.

Congratulations to Luda and Andy on their recent promotions. Luda received her level 7. She is one of our longest standing members, having trained with us for years and is easily the hardest working and fieriest student in class. Andy was a student of ours years ago, but left us for a time while he started a family. Over the pandemic he found his way back to us and we are excited to have him back in class. I tell my students all the time, that a school is only worth the students that fill it and in that regard we are very fortunate to have people like Luda and Andy as part of our community.

Throwback to pre-Covid, when we did all sorts of awesome stuff: weighted maces, kettlebells, ab wheels and iron palm, not to mention light. sparring and furthering our knowledge of the dragon pole by fighting with padded swords.

Weekends are for… weapons training!! We are currently studying a slightly different version of the Dragon Pole. It is so interesting how each lineage has their own interpretation of the movements of a form. No one is right and everyone has something to teach.
