Bak Mei 白眉 Vancouver

As Lunar New Year 2026 approaches, we have some fun public performances lined up to celebrate the year of the horse (馬)! 🐎🧧🏮🎉

We will mostly be lion dancing, performing some Bak Mei kung fu demonstrations (Metrotown and Chinatown parade), and you get to meet our God of Fortunes at Metrotown and Holt Renfrew!

On the final day of 2025, we are reminiscing all the last few performances we had throughout the year!

Some of our team’s most memorable and favourite performances this year were for celebrations marking both life’s biggest milestones and its very first beginnings.

We were honoured to perform at birthday celebrations for a 100 year old, a 70 year old, and a 1 year old, as well as several 100-day baby celebrations, each one incredibly special in its own way. These are moments that can’t be recreated, it’s a small gift from our team that we can give, where we hope it can stay for a lifetime.

For our year-end closing remarks, we would like to thank you to each and every person that we connected and worked with. It was a great pleasure to be part of your community, and filling your events with smiles, laughter and unforgettable memories!

The Bak Mei Vancouver team will continue to work hard with gratitude and humility. We wish everyone all the best in 2026, and let’s keep the spirit going! 🙌🏻✨

With the year coming to a close, we’re looking back at the events we had in 2025!

Back in April, our team was in the 43rd Can Am International Martial Arts Championships. We also participated in the opening ceremony with one of our lions representing the Bak Mei team.

Every year, our competition results demonstrates the team’s improvement and progress towards our training. With a few members competing for their first time, we are happy and proud with the outstanding achievements that our competitors have made! A huge thank you to our Sifus, instructors, team leaders, family and friends for all their support and coaching!

Congratulations to our members, and to the other teams who competed in the martial arts and lion dance competition! It’s always a great pleasure seeing the other schools every year 🤗

What a year it’s been! As the year comes to a close, we’re looking back on some of the performances we did in 2025.

We kicked off the year with Lunar New Year performances; they were filled with energy, tradition, and teamwork. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, celebrated with us, and kept the spirit alive! There were many firsts for us, but that didn’t stop our team from enjoying every moment and learning from it.

So grateful for our clients, communities and fun moments that made this year unforgettable, honoured to continue sharing this tradition with everyone. Looking forward to spreading more good fortune, prosperity and blessings in 2026!🧧🏮🧨🦁✨

Followed by the lion dance performance, were our kung fu and weapons demonstrations at the 53rd Anniversary Bak Mei Banquet!

We presented over 20+ back-to-back demonstrations, highlighting our passion and dedication we bring in our forms, and we also performed a fun and playful weapons extravaganza as a finale that showcased snippets taken from our weapon forms. It was truly wonderful to see everyone cheering and enjoying the performance! Moments like these remind us of the joy in training and the progression of the team 😊

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our VIPs, Sifus/Masters, other martial artists, family, friends, guests, including those who traveled from out of town and of course our Bak Mei family for joining us and celebrating this special occasion. Your presence and encouragement made the evening truly meaningful, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

With this, we conclude our anniversary banquet celebration. We are proud of the energy and growth shown by all our performers, and deeply appreciative of everyone who joined us to make this occasion so meaningful.

On August 16, we celebrated our 53rd Anniversary Bak Mei Banquet!

We began the performance with the eye-dotting ceremony, awakening and blessing our new twin orange Fut San lions and a Hok San gold and white lion.

Afterwards, we brought six lions to the stage, where our team performed a routine that showcased the teamwork and training leading up to this event. We presented a pyramid formation with the lions near the end and closed the lion dance with joy and excitement!

We were especially thrilled to include our junior lion dancers, who brought incredible spirit, focus, and energy to the stage. Their performance was outstanding, and we are very proud of them!

Last month, we held our discipleship Ceremony (Bai See 拜師), a tradition where students offer tea, kneel and bow, and present a red envelope to formally become disciples of their Sifu.

We were honoured to celebrate this with our senior disciples, Sisooks, and special guests! This was an especially meaningful occasion, as it will be the last time our Sifu Wilkie Wu will be accepting any formal disciples under the current Bak Mei 8th generation lineage.

As a part of the ceremony, the new disciples also read aloud the Code of Conduct and the Student Oath towards our Sifu Wilkie Wu, pleading their respect and responsibilities as members of the Bak Mei Family.

Many of these dedicated students have been training for 8–15+ years, so an additional 16 more students have now officially joined the Bak Mei Family. There were over 12 accepted disciples under our Sifu Wilkie Wu already, therefore this makes his count to having over 30 official disciples now. This formal discipleship ceremony not only marks their achievement but also honours and preserves our martial arts traditions, ensuring the knowledge and spirit of our lineage are passed on to the next generation.

We are grateful to everyone who came to support and witness this meaningful milestone with us!
