A Heartfelt Thank You to LoriAnn Bird and Laura Cisneros

The Hastings Community Association, along with the staff at Hastings Community Centre and Templeton Park Pool, would like to extend our deepest gratitude to LoriAnn and Laura as they move on to pursue new passions.

Since 2020, LoriAnn and Laura have been the driving force behind our Indigenous Welcome Garden at Templeton Park Pool and have also generously shared their time and knowledge in supporting the Chén̓chenstway Healing Garden and Indigenous Food Forest at Oxford Park. Their work has enriched our community in countless ways, creating welcoming spaces for learning, reflection, and connection.

Beyond the gardens, LoriAnn and Laura were the heart of many of our most meaningful community events, including our Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt) Day and Día de los Mu***os observances at Templeton Park Pool, and Earth Day celebrations at Templeton and Burrard View Park. Through their passion, creativity, and dedication, they created experiences that brought people together, encouraged learning, and strengthened our community.

The impact they have had cannot be overstated. Their commitment—especially to Truth and Reconciliation—has left a lasting legacy at Templeton Park Pool and throughout our community.

As LoriAnn and Laura move on, we want our community to know that while we will continue to recognize and observe Truth and Reconciliation, these events will look different in the future. The care, knowledge, and spirit that LoriAnn and Laura brought to this work were truly unique and cannot simply be replaced. Rather than trying to recreate what they built, we will honour their legacy by continuing this important work in new and meaningful ways.

To LoriAnn and Laura: thank you for your generosity, your leadership, your friendship, and the countless hours you dedicated to making our community stronger. Your contributions have touched so many lives, and your legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.

From all of us at the Hastings Community Association, Hastings Community Centre, and Templeton Park Pool—thank you. We wish you both every success and happiness in your next chapter. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
