Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Swim BC Officials Symposium on September 12 at the Richmond Oval! We had a fantastic turnout with 48 officials in attendance, all bringing incredible energy and enthusiasm as we gear up for the new season.

The day kicked off with time to network and catch up, followed by updates from Swim BC and our Swimming Canada OCRC rep’s year in review. Attendees engaged in insightful sessions covering key topics such as:

- Next steps in mentor/mentee relationships
- National meet evaluation process updates
- Building a culture of reflective officiating
- Navigating the road to Level V

It was inspiring to see so much collaboration and dedication to officiating excellence across the province. Thank you again to all who attended; we’re excited for a great season ahead!

Swim BC is pleased to welcome Brian Horan as our new President. Brian has served on the Swim BC Board of Directors since the 2022–2023 season and brings extensive experience in sport, volunteer leadership and corporate governance to the role.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to outgoing President Jeannie Lo for her leadership, commitment and contributions to Swim BC since the 2021–2022 season.

Swim BC joins the swimming community in mourning the passing of Lawrie Johns.

For more than 30 years, Lawrie gave his time as an official, volunteer, club leader, and proud swim parent. His dedication touched countless swimmers, officials, and families, and his presence on the pool deck will be deeply missed.

We extend our deepest condolences to Kevin, Brian, and the entire Johns family.

The Kamloops 2026 55+ BC Games are set to take place September 8–12!

Swimming competition gets underway September 9 at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre, with three days of racing through September 11.

Swim BC wishes all swimmers competing in Kamloops a great week of racing and the best of luck at the 2026 55+ BC Games.

From a small four-lane pool in a remote coastal community came national champions, Olympians, and international medallists.

Between 1948 and 1972, the Ocean Falls Amateur Swimming Club placed at least one swimmer on every Canadian Olympic, Commonwealth, or Pan American Games team, building a legacy that remains an important part of British Columbia’s swimming history.

Stories like Ocean Falls are at the heart of the Swim BC Alumni Network: reconnecting the people who shaped our sport and preserving their contributions for future generations.
