Last week’s Wavechaser had some excellent following swells on the way back from the 2nd dolphin. Not much in the way of wind, so the battle out west was not exhausting. Who knows what this week will bring? Windy says 5 km/h SW so possibly some bumps from the west. Register now via the Wavechaser website!

After the Board the Fjord race last Saturday, and the Tuesday Night Racing lightning storm, perhaps the Wavechaser will have more friendly and easy conditions…. but you never know until 7:00 PM! Here’s the webpage for the races, with upcoming races listed.

This week’s Wavechaser course is still undefined. I will try to make it a similar distance as last week as many are tapering before Saturday’s Board the Fjord race.

The 2026 season of Wavechaser events is coming up soon!

For those unfamiliar with the races, they are for all paddle craft; SUP, surfski, kayak, outrigger (OC and Va’a), prone board, rowing shell… you name it! We meet at Jericho Sailing Centre on Thursdays after 18:00, usually outside east of the main building, to check in, see what the course is, and socialize. Races start at 19:00 out on the water near the Albatross Race Committee boat. Typically 3 waves; surfski, outrigger, then SUP/slower vessels. There is normally a short and a long course and the races take up to an hour depending on your speed. All are welcome!

Registration is online using Webscorer, each upcoming race will be posted a week before the event. First race is April 30th, the registration link is below. There is a series pass that gets you some free races. We have T-shirts for sale for $20; bright orange for safety!

There aren’t any rocks to worry about close to shore at Jericho, but there are submerged pilings, so watch out (not like me on Tuesday)! The final Wavechaser will be a short loop, 1-4 laps, followed by Double D pizza.
