Some ideas really do ripple outward 🌊💙
While I’m over in Ireland completing my MSc in Marine & Coastal Environments at the University of Galway, it’s been pretty surreal watching projects and conversations continue growing back home on the Sunshine Coast Betty Betty
Today, Salt & Scholar was featured as the Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival “Short of the Day” 🎬
What started as research into Irish wool, sustainability transitions, and circular economy systems slowly evolved into wider conversations around fast fashion, natural fibres, ocean health, and microplastics — connecting land and sea in ways I honestly didn’t expect when I first started this journey.
One of the most meaningful parts of this experience has been seeing community members, collaborators, and organizations continue carrying these ideas forward while I’m across the Atlantic. Makes the distance feel a little smaller 💙
Huge gratitude to everyone involved with the Sunshine Coast Ocean Festival Sunshine Coast Conservation Association for continuing to create spaces for ocean storytelling, education, and community connection.

We respectfully acknowledge that we live and work on Yukusam....
