What a fantastic start to our Weekend with Sandy Shimoda! The studio was filled with the energy of amazing movers & curious minds. We nourished our bodies & stepped out of our comfort zone. We’re in a great place for two more days of learning!

23 years ago, I had a life-changing fall on a backcountry ski trip. We didn’t have cell phones back then, and my friends literally carried me off the mountain over the course of 2 days.
After surgery, I was told I shouldn’t run anymore (or do high-impact sports) because so much of my meniscus had been removed.
At the time, running was more than exercise for me. It was stress relief, freedom, identity. I also played ultimate frisbee on several teams, so hearing that felt devastating.
I tried running anyway… only to end up with a knee that swelled like a watermelon for days afterward.
So I stopped.
I gave up ultimate frisbee and shifted to biking instead. Thankfully, I could still ski and hike. And my rehab led me to Pilates - the only silver lining in the challenging chapter.
Running became the thing I thought I had lost forever.
Then 8 years ago, Revi came into my life — and he needed a LOT more exercise than I had time for. By then, I had a solid Pilates practice and was nearly done my Comprehensive Teacher Training.
So I decided to cautiously try running again, secretly hoping Pilates had worked some kind of miracle.
It had.
Now I run a couple times a week. Nothing huge — usually under 10km — but I run pain-free. No swelling. No aftermath.
One of the things I value most about Pilates is that it helps people reconnect to parts of themselves they thought were gone forever.
Has movement ever given something back to you? I’d love to hear your story.
Has anyone else ever stood on their hair in Tendon Stretch?
It sure was an unpleasant surprise! Good thing I’m getting a haircut next week - this mop is getting dangerous, especially in high pony mode 🤣
