Congratulations to winner, Griffin McMillan of Sault Ste. Marie, who pulled this 23-inch speckled trout while ice fishing on a memorable winter day with his Dad, Ryan, his brother, Hunter, and Uncle Kraig. They were using a Williams Wobbler (purple and pink spoon) with line attached and a Dace minnow, on a tip up, in approx. five feet of water. Happy fishing in 2022, everyone!

Golden Shiners (Notemigonus crysoleucas) are an important baitfish species that could be negatively impacted by the establishment of invasive Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus) through hybridization, and competition for food and habitat. These two species can be easily confused with each other, but you can use this graphic to help tell them apart.
