Arc’teryx Victoria would like to thank our Community Ambassador for their storytelling, our team is inspired and grateful for their vulnerability and courage. We highly recommend taking some time to view all three chapters of their short film if you haven’t yet. Follow along for some closing words from Cedar below.
‘Going home to honour my matrilineal roots was nerve wracking, especially bringing all the camera gear and including my family within the project.
Although I have shared this vulnerability before, it was different than writing it out because I couldn’t hide behind carefully selected words (like I am right now). This is why I asked Jordan to help support tell this story, as I knew he would honour the homelands but also understand the depth of everything that was shared — on this project and Standing in the Gap.
Many know wałeyuu as the West Coast Trail, but very few seek out the stories that are intertwined with the land and waters. These stories aren’t just from many generations ago, but within our time and in the future. My aunts and uncles were the last generation to live within our coastal villages. My generation were and are Guardians, Boardwalk Crew, or fisher people. My nieces and nephews already have childhood memories of our ancestral territories.
Yes, it hurts to be separated from wałeyuu, but the stories and healing we have done so far give me hope for the future to fully reconnect with ditidaqiic̓aq disib̓aʔk. In the meantime, it makes each visit even more special.
ʔuušiy̓akšƛ̓as Jordan and Arc’teryx Victoria for everything.’

It’s official: applications for the 2023 Arc’teryx Community Grant Program are open.
At Arc’teryx, we believe the mountains are for everyone. To play, to grow, to connect with ourselves, community and nature. The Grant Program is an extension of that belief.
The Grant Program is for local, grassroots individuals and organizations actively working to increase equitable access to nature for those who have traditionally faced barriers to access the outdoors leading to underrepresentation or exclusion.
To support this work, we will provide grants of up to $5,000 CAD.
If this sounds like you, or an organization you know, please spread the word or begin the application process by clicking the link in bio.
