Shōrinji-ryū Karate-dō at CARSA (UVic)
The new year is a natural time to begin again.
If you have ever been curious about classical martial arts training — not for competition or spectacle, but for balance, discipline, and quiet strength — this is an invitation to explore that path.
At CARSA Shōrinji-ryū Academy, Karate-dō is practiced as a method of cultivation, aligning breath, posture, and movement to steady the mind and strengthen the body over time.
Training emphasizes:
• Calm, mindful movement
• Efficient posture and natural mechanics
• Breath awareness and internal focus
• Discipline, humility, and self-reflection
• Traditional martial principles expressed with restraint
No prior martial arts experience is required.
No specific level of physical fitness is expected.
Practice unfolds in an uncompromisingly classical manner.
gradually, in a respectful adult environment, beginning exactly where you are.
Please message for all inquiries.

Last week we held our very first class of the Fall semester at UVic CARSA, and it was wonderful to see both new faces and not-so-new faces in the dojo. I hope everyone enjoyed the session and left with a deeper appreciation of classical martial arts.
Karatedo is a lifelong journey - the further you walk along this path, the more you discover, appreciate, and enjoy. I’m truly grateful to be sharing this journey with all of you, and I look forward to many more great classes together this semester!

I’m excited to announce the new Fall semester at CARSA! This marks our ninth year at the University of Victoria, and it is thanks to your dedication and spirit that our dojo continues to grow stronger.
Karatedo is more than technique. It is the study of martial virtues and a way of life. Training develops not only the body, but also discipline, perseverance, and spirit, qualities that extend far beyond the dojo into everyday life
We look forward to seeing you this semester as we continue walking this path together.
