Project Hydration Domination is officially a go 🚿
As we celebrate 35 years of golf at Cordova Bay, this project is all about investing in the next 35 (and beyond!!) - improving course conditions and strengthening the foundation that keeps everything running smoothly for years to come. So yes, there will be a bit of construction… but really, it’s just the course getting a well-deserved spa day 💧
During each phase of the project, one hole will be out of play, and we’ll be offering a discounted green fee throughout the work. For the purists who need their full 18, we’ll also have an optional alternate hole to a temporary green (details on the day - we like to keep a little mystery in your round). For all the latest updates, check out the new “Irrigation Updates” tab on our website 👀
Thanks for your patience while we upgrade the behind-the-scenes magic that keeps the course in top shape 💚

Meet Coach Doug! 👋
Cool, calm, and full of golf wisdom – Doug brings decades of experience to Cordova Bay. His love for golf started at just 8 years old, trading in lost golf balls… and decades later, he’s still learning, loving, and sharing the game. What he loves about golf is the constant challenge, the ever-changing nature of the game, and the people. And when it comes to coaching, nothing beats hearing about his players’ successes – those moments are what it’s all about.
When he’s not out teaching on the course, you might find Doug chasing steelhead on the river, catching a concert (though he says silence is best to get him in the zone for golf), or relaxing with a good book (Golf in the Kingdom is a favourite). In fact, golf is so ingrained into Doug’s DNA, his most used emojis are ♥⛳. How telling is that?
🗺 Favourite place you’ve traveled? Golfing in St Andrews & Royal Dornoch
💰 First thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? Depends how much! Granddaughter has her eyes on a Porsche SUV… but if he wins the big one, donation to Vancouver Children’s + VGH
🏌️♂️ Favourite club? Sand wedge (his go-to stroke saver)
🐎 Fun fact about Doug? He used to raise and race standardbred horses - so it’s safe to say a little competition has always been in his blood!
Doug also helps run Operation 36 at Cordova Bay – a six-week program designed to help golfers of all levels build skills, confidence and momentum in a structured, step-by-step way. Whether you’re new to the game, returning after time away, or looking to break through a plateau, it’s all about making golf more approachable & enjoyable!

Meet Ian Goard, the culinary mastermind behind the menus at Bill Mattick's Restaurant! 🍽
Born in Nelson and now a longtime Victoria local, Ian brings serious energy to everything he does - from soccer to marathons to even tackling the odd ironman triathlon 🏊♀️🏃♂️🚴♂️ His music taste is just as wide-ranging (think punk to 80s classics), which fits perfectly with his approach to food: something for everyone, and always full of flavour.
His path to the kitchen wasn't exactly linear - he actually studies history at UVIc before following his real passion of cooking. Training in Kamloops and sharpening his skills in Whistler, he helped lead large-scale resort and event kitchens (casually serving up to 1,200 guests, no big deal)
Since returning to the island in 2004, Ian has been wowing diners at Bill Mattick's Restaurant ever since. With 30+ years of experience, he's perfected the art of making food that's impossible to say no to... even he can't pick a favourite! (The Lemon Chicken burger might be a front-runner through) 🍋🍔
Cordova Bay is beyond fortunate to have Chef Ian in the kitchen... except he isn't just a chef, he's more like a marathoning, pop punk listening, culinary wizard who can scheme up flavours you didn't even know you needed. Swing on by to check out his current hits - your stomach will thank you 🙌
