Burnside Lawn Bowling Club

For anyone curious the Scottish Para bowls team has TWO Pairs players using hand held monoculars. Prior to 1999 I used one of 5hoe4. Glad those days are over.

Interesting watching Commonwealth Games Bowls on CBC Gem: no rolling the jack, an umpire on each rink, a skip can start walking up the green prior to an opponent's bowl coming to rest, a clock requiring a bowler to deliver a bowl within a required period of time. I watched someone lose a match due to the violation of the latter as a time out was not called. While I have your attention, our Ryan Bester is playing singles.

Our annual Ashford Tournament was held this weekend. This is a mixed triples where the lady must skip.

In 1st place - Sandi Hodel's team from Victoria
2nd place - Verlie Martin's team from CP
3rd place - Jill Foster's team from Gordon Head
4th place - Jean Morrison's team from Oak Bay.

Random draw went to Judith Raymer's team from Lakehill.

Yesterday was our annual Flora Martin Open Fours tournament.
This was at one time a women's singles but times change so during the 2018 or 2019 season we decided to make it an Open Fours since there wasn't one in our district. A few years ago, to encourage the new people, we added a requirement that a first to third year bowler needed to be on each team.
Everyone had a great time.

In 1st place and undefeated in 3 games. 3 wins was Team Peter G. Smith
In 2nd place, also undefeated with 2 wins and 1 tie was Team Jansen
In 3rd place with 2 wins and 1 point difference in differential is Team Forster
In 4th place with 2 wins was Team May.

Our random winner was my own co-chair games director Team Dan Bitterlich

Thanks to some of our wonderful members we are hard at work replacing some backboards.

It was the start of plinth replacement today at Burnside. A learning experience and a lot of hard work by some of our members. This side will be finished before the season starts. The other sides will be done at the end of the season.
