I am ANTI-violence. To be specific, I am anti-somebody being violent towards me. Actually, I’m anti-anybody being violent towards anybody, which is why I have dedicated my life to doing the work that I do. Providing violence prevention education to girls and women is at the heart of all of the work I do.

Can we just take a moment to celebrate these two women who successfully defended themselves and escaped attacks by a stranger with a weapon? I don't know who they were or what they did in the moment. I don't know if they had training or used their innate abilities and instincts.

I do know that they were powerful in the moment when they had to be.

Women report because they want:
1. The perpetrator to admit wrong-doing, take responsibility, and change the behaviour (not often going to happen but still we want this).
2. The perpetration against HER to stop.
3. The perpetration against OTHERS to stop and to protect others who might become targets or victims.
4. To gain the support of allies.
5. To identify allies of the perpetrator.
6. To have the perpetrator held accountable.

Consent is a dialogue of invitations and responses. It is the yes as well as the no. Open doors as well as closed ones. Having the ability to fully invite or to accept human connection is the fullness of empowerment.
