2026 Youth Football Summer Camp

ROSTER ANNOUNCEMENT – Team Indigenous BC | Ultimate Division

This is a special announcement for a truly special team.

For the first time ever, the BC Summer Games (BCSG) BC Summer Games Ultimate Division will feature a team made up entirely of Indigenous athletes. It’s a historic milestone for the BCSG, BC Ultimate, and, of course, the Community Ultimate Spirit Program (CUSP). The games are taking place in the territory of Syilx Okanagan Territory, in Kelowna.

A huge congratulations to these incredible athletes, their coaches, and the many friends, families, volunteers, and partners working behind the scenes to make this roster possible.

For the past eight years, CUSP has worked alongside Indigenous communities across British Columbia, using ultimate as a vehicle for social development and meaningful connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. Seeing a full team of Indigenous youth, many of whom have grown through CUSP, competing at the BCSG is an incredible moment.

In the Ultimate Spirit community we prioritize the process: building relationships, developing leaders, cultivating confidence, and creating positive experiences through our sport. While outcomes are never the primary focus, moments like this, we truly have to celebrate a major outcome. Having Team Indigenous BC take the field at the BCSG is an achievement we’re deeply proud to be part of.

This team brings together athletes from the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations, Lil’wat Nation, Hesquiaht First Nation 🙂 and Sqwá First Nation, representing the strength and diversity of Indigenous communities across the province. Simply bringing this team together, coordinating the logistics and getting everyone to Kelowna, is already a victory. From here, this week is about so much more than results. It’s about developing skills, building spirit, forming new friendships across communities, and creating lifelong memories.

What a team. What a milestone.

🛟I∙SPARC is pleased to present the 2026 Provincial Lifeguarding Leadership Camp, hosted in partnership with the Aboriginal Youth F.I.R.S.T. Program (Futures in Recreation & Sport Training).

💧This weeklong camp is open to self-identified Indigenous youth (First Nation, Métis, & Inuit) of all ages and will introduce the sport of Lifesaving & Lifeguarding for both beginners and advanced athletes. The camp will be delivered by certified Lifesaving Society and PADI instructors

-Lifesaving Stream: 13 years old by course start date & basic swimming ability
-Lifeguarding Stream: 15 years old by course start date & Bronze Cross certification

The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (ISPARC), Jr Canucks Community Clinics, the City of Cranbrook, Purcell Collegiate School, Kootenay Hockey Academy, Pacific Sport Columbia Basin and Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) are pleased to present The 11th Annual Kootenays Indigenous Youth Hockey Camp.

Camp will feature on/off ice training and skill development with local coaches and the Vancouver Canucks, appearances from the Jr. Canucks Community Clinics Staff, and opportunities to participate in the Vancouver Canucks Community Clinics Floor Hockey program during the camp.

Our head Coach for the camp, Dustin Auger, has been working closely with the community of Cranbrook and coaching hockey for many years. Dustin is a crucial part to the success of this camp and for many years, he has taken on the camp in full within a coaching capacity. Without coaches like Dustin, camps like these would not exist.

The camp will also feature on ice sessions with Alex Hendrickson, our Women's Team BC Head Coach for the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship. Alex brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and hockey knowledge to the camp, making her an incredible asset for young female athletes looking to grow their game. A Development 1 Certified Coach, Alex has spent four years coaching with Team BC at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC), helping lead her teams to impressive success, including two bronze medals and one silver medal.

Alex’s connection to Team BC runs deep, as she also competed for Team BC at the NAHC in 2011. Her playing career continued at the NCAA Division III level, where she played four years of collegiate hockey and served as a two-year team captain, demonstrating strong leadership both on and off the ice. Alex holds a Master of Science in Exercise and Wellness, bringing valuable knowledge of athlete development, performance, and wellness to her coaching approach. As a proud citizen of MNBC, Alex is passionate about mentoring and inspiring the next generation of female hockey players. Her experience and dedication make this camp a fantastic opportunity for young girls to learn, develop confidence, and grow their love for the game.

The Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council (ISPARC) and Canoe/Kayak BC (CKBC) are pleased to present the Canoe/Kayak BC - Interior Development Camp. This initiative is in collaboration with Canoe Kayak BC and is open to all Indigenous youth that can Attend. Youth 11 - 17 years of age are able to attend.

What the camp will include:

1. Paddling environment safety, safety scenarios
2. Water safety & rescue
3. Paddling literacy:
- Canoe & Kayak
- description and parts, carrying boats
- Canoe & Kayak entry & exit
- Paddles - description and parts
- Paddles - proper stroker on land & on the water
- Maneuvering boats and basic paddling skills in shallow water
- Water safety - practical in shallow water
4. Paddling performance:
- Canoe & Kayak - variety of the strokes in deep water
- Activities for training skills
- Obstacle courses in singles and tandems
- 3+ crews in Canoes, performance paddling session

🥏Ultimate joins the list of sports that will have a an 𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐁𝐂 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 in Kelowna, from July 22-26.

The BC Games Indigenous Participation Program is delivered in collaboration with I·SPARC and the BC Games Society, supporting Indigenous athlete participation across the province.

Athletes ages 13-15 (born between 2011-13) are eligible for this competition.
