Rock Talk Returns for 2026!
This climbing season, we invite you to share your outdoor adventures with us. We’re seeking anything from epic stories at popular crags to tales of discovery at lesser known locales, or even embarrassing incidents of times when not all went to plan. We invite you to consider: what did this experience teach you, and why do you want to share it with the world? Rock Talk is an opportunity for us to learn from other climbers' outdoor escapades and we want the community to be at the centre of it.
Submissions are open from July 18th to August 2nd. If your story is selected, we will contact you with further details before the event kicks off in September! Visit cragx.ca/rocktalk2026 to submit.

It's already been a week since the huge Spring Fling Finals Day! If you missed out on stamping your shirt, we’re happy to say that there will be two more opportunities for you to get in on the creative goodness.
We’ll have the stamping station open for business tomorrow (May 9th) at 3PM and Tuesday (May 12th) at 6PM, so bring your bare SFCT shirts down and warm up your fingers for stamping.
Thanks again for your participation in SFCT! We had an absolute blast running it for you all and can’t wait for what’s next in store.

🌞 May Product of the Month 🌞
If last week didn't make it abundantly clear, we're rapidly approaching the season of sweat! Get your hands ready for rock with the mighty frictional force of Midnight Lightning Liquid Chalk and enjoy 10% off all of May, members and non-members alike.
Once the bottle runs dry, don't despair: bring it back to the gym for a refill and save some pennies to put towards your next climbing trip! Comes with a cutesy little carabiner for easy attachment onto your harness, chalk bucket, or even keys depending on the severity of your day-to-day chalk needs. We're not judging.

We recently rolled out a new program called Saturday Morning Climbing Club—mostly social with a smattering of instructional, we think it’s the perfect way to start your morning!
We get that sometimes even early birds need a little rest, so the program now runs on a punch card system and you can feel free to drop in whenever is convenient for you. Grab a 5-punch SMCC exclusive punch card for $50 (that's $10 per drop-in!) and enjoy the freedom of choice.
To allow you to get a taste of what’s in store, we’re offering the first session of each run FOR FREE for anyone to participate in. The next free session is this Saturday MAY 9TH. From 8AM to 10AM, join an energetic group as instructor Finn leads you through a warm-up followed by a climbing workout that will feature a technical or tactical focus and some climbing specific mobility to finish.
See you there 🐦☀️

As we're about to wrap up SFCT, we want to celebrate South Island Climbing Association (SICA), a local organisation who does substantial work for the climbing community by keeping outdoor climbing accessible and responsible.
SICA protects and manages rock climbing areas in southern Vancouver Island through a variety of methods, such as: promoting responsible climbing; maintenance of trails, climbs, and anchors; supporting climbing research; and educating climbers on safety and environmental responsibility. They also plan events, such as their recent MELLOW film fest at Vic Theatre, are currently working with the CRD to create a policy for climbing within Greater Victoria, and even have a bolt and boulder fund to support local development!
For $10 a year, you can support the work SICA does and have them represent you as a climber! Honestly, we’re not able to write down everything SICA accomplishes and keep it under the required word count, so we’d just like to say that we’re extremely happy to support SICA and the hard work they do for our climbing community. They are a massive facet of island climbing that can’t be replaced and we strongly suggest considering becoming a member.
Head to www.southislandclimbers.ca or visit their Instagram page at to learn more about their work!
