I often find it fascinating how a simple change in perspective can radically change how you interpret your past.
I have laid awake at night countless times, replaying a decision, convinced I'd permanently damaged my future. Much of my life has felt like a long series of heart-breaking mistakes. I'm certain that if I'd just done things differently — been stronger, less afraid, made smarter choices — I'd feel better today - more stable, more accomplished.
What I didn't understand then was that the feeling of being lost or regretful wasn't evidence that I was off my path. It WAS the path. Everything I struggled through taught me something, and eventually led me to the work I do now. I guess the only regret is that I didn't listen closer at the time.
I wrote this article for those who feel like "you should be further along" or "you made the wrong choice". It's about the hidden fear that fuels so much of our decision-making (and our anxiety!) and why you're probably not as lost as you feel.

I often wake up feeling bewildered that I founded and own an online yoga business, one that hundreds of thousands rely on, or have relied on, as an important source of comfort and ease in their lives.
I actually never meant for this to happen. Unlike many of the other business owners I have met, I never wanted to be an entrepreneur. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it now, but it was not a life goal.
When I was younger, I thought that learning how to run a business would be soul draining. And at certain points of this journey, it has been. But I have learned a lot over the past 15 years, and one of my greatest lessons was to (put simply) be honest.
There is a fine line between authentic expression and manipulation and there is often an uncomfortable truth associated with both of them. The truth is that manipulation works. I know because I've used it. And it worked right up until the moment I realized I couldn't recognize my own voice anymore.
I wrote an article about this inner struggle. In this article, I write about what happens when we prioritize approval over honesty — in our marketing, in our relationships, in our lives. And what happened when I finally stopped trying to optimize my humanity and just started telling the truth.
Perhaps we didn't get as many subscribers as we could have, but I believe that the people who stayed became more connected than ever. Because authenticity doesn't attract everyone. It attracts the right people.

I've had a long journey of gradually feeling safe and comfortable with sharing how I feel, particularly while my anxiety feels out of control. I wrote this article to try to help those who feel the same. For many, being vulnerable feels impossible, and when you try it often feels worse at first. But wow, can it ever help relieve the pain!
