Okanagan Jr. Thunder Wheelchair Basketball Club

Our Jr Thunder crew and their families got together this weekend to celebrate an awesome season behind us, and to look forward to an even better one ahead!

We also shared some amazing news with the team that the incredible owners of Common Good Pharmacy right here in West Kelowna have given us a large donation which will cover our 2026-2027 program expenses! Thank you Chris and the team at Common Good for believing in this program and supporting the future of wheelchair basketball in the Okanagan ❤️🏀.

Next season kicks off mid September and we can’t wait!!

National Accessibility week is here, and even though our basketball season has wrapped up, we’re already planning for some summer fun and next year’s schedule!

Huge thanks to (Central Okanagan School District) for highlighting our wheelchair basketball event at CNB this past month. Prioritizing inclusion, accessibility and adapted sport opportunities is vital to every community and we’re thrilled to see you’ve taken steps to do so. We can’t wait for the next partnership and we’re excited to host many more of these events!

Thank you West K News for highlighting our event on April 11 at school. We love being able to share our sport with as many people as possible, not only to encourage more kiddos to try it out, but to educate our community about disabilities and adapted sports opportunities. 🤩🏀

If you are interested in coming out to give WC basketball a try, please reach out! We wrap up our 25/26 season with a final practice on May 13 and will return in mid September. Stay tuned for potential summer camp dates as well!

Couldn’t be more proud of these kids for the effort they gave this weekend. We competed in the Minis Division at the CWBL Finals (Canadian WC Basketball League) in Edmonton. Our Thunder team is coming home with a silver medal after battling 5 games (there were 6 teams altogether in the division)! 🥈🤩

Thanks to Coach Ryan for leading this team as always and to the parents who make it happen for these out of town tournaments.

Also, huge congrats to the adult teams from BC, Fraser Valley with a Div 2 gold medal, Prince George with a Div 2 silver medal, and Kamloops Bulldawgs with a Div 3 silver medal. BC represented well this weekend!!

Over the weekend we hosted a fundraiser/awareness event at school where our Jr team played WC basketball against the school team. Despite most of the CNB athletes unfamiliar with the game and using sport chairs, the kids were awesome! Great attitude, smiles all around and everyone showed up to celebrate inclusive sport. Thank you CNB, Full Circle Sports, all Thunder athletes and parents, coaches and all our incredible volunteers!
