“I have been fortunate enough to be a part of Whistler Pilates since the start. I was referred to Louise by my physiotherapist. I began Pilates with the focus on my posture, or lack of, and started on a journey that I hope will last the rest of my life. Every session adds further awareness, no matter how large or small, of what my body can do. Whistler Pilates is an essential part of my week, both physically and for the sense of community. Thank you for keeping me moving forward!”

“I joined the Whistler Pilates community in 2012 after a severe concussion. I attribute my Pilates practice to my recovery for sure. I have seen the studio’s apparatus "cast of characters" grow from a humble three reformers to a fully-equipped studio, including the recent and long-awaited addition of the guillotine.

I love the Whistler Pilates community for the amazing people in it. I am always inspired and amazed by Louise’s instruction. She always finds new meaning and depth in the fundamental exercises as well as introducing new content, whether it be advanced variations or archival exercises. Each session is a new discovery!

Over the years, I have attended sessions taught by a variety of great instructors, each bringing their own style and insights into the work. I love my fellow students for their camaraderie, dedication, and humour. In Whistler, we are familiar with many sports and the level of athleticism is inspirational. Pilates is a perfect antidote to the adrenaline-filled, competitive activities. It’s where I go to connect with my body, my breathing, and calm my mind. It keeps me injury-free, strong, and adaptable to the many other activities I enjoy. I always leave energized and feeling mentally and physically ready for the day.

My favourite apparatus is the Cadillac. Where else can you stretch in “fuzzies” and do pull-ups in a trapeze? I love hanging out upside down after the traditional ending.”

Maria has been a part of the Whistler Pilates community since the beginning.

“Before the studio opened, I took many classes with Louise, who was teaching Pilates for the Arts Council at Millennium Place.

My favourite part of being a part of the Whistler Pilates community is continually learning and sharing.

I am learning to love the chair, but monkey stretch using the push through bar gets my two tightest spots at the same time.

I do many everyday things differently because I can recognize how to use my core and not injure myself.  Well, not always, but at least a lot less! And I spend way less time and money on physiotherapy.”

Cathy has been a part of the Whistler Pilates community since March 2012.

“I think I’ve been doing Pilates for about 10 years. I started at Myrtle Philip School and then the studio in Function before I found Whistler Pilates.

My favourite thing is the core work as I tend to have back problems; I don’t get that from anything else I do. The reformer is my favourite piece of apparatus.

Pilates has helped me with balance and strength for skiing and flexibility for golf.”

Rebecca and Karine have been a part of the Whistler Pilates community for about 3 years.

“We like the studio facilities, the cleanliness, the apparatus options, and the welcoming and non-judgemental attitude.”

Karine’s favourite exercises are any that include stretching and the magic circle, which supports a variety of stretching activities.

Justine has been a part of the Whistler Pilates community since 2012.

“I love being a part of the studio with Louise as my teacher. My favourite exercises are Swan Dive and Teaser on the Short box. Whenever I do Pilates I feel taller and it makes me feel good.“

“I was lucky enough to find Louise and Whistler Pilates in June 2011.  I was a dog groomer in Whistler and had heard that Pilates was good for the core and preventing back injuries, and being in Whistler I was often wrestling 150 lbs mountain breeds into the tub and knew I couldn't afford to injure myself being self-employed.

As it turned out, starting Pilates changed the course of my life. After 3 years doing regular twice a week sessions at Whistler Pilates, I ended up doing teacher training with Louise and becoming an instructor.  It was not until I went out into the world of Pilates that I realised how blessed I was to learn from the start from such a Master. I thank my lucky stars each day that I learnt the classical method and from a teacher that has lineage back to Joseph Pilates himself. I'm so passionate about the original Pilates Method, and it is being lost in the modified contemporary world of Pilates. I have gone on to open my own studio in Australia and when I teach I still think of Louise and the influence she had on me.

The people of Whistler are very lucky to have such an amazing classical Pilates studio at their doorstep, with well-trained staff that are so dedicated to the method.”

“Just over 10 years ago, I tried out a homemade reformer and did a couple of mat workouts. This was enough to tell me Pilates was worth looking into. I connected with Louise, who was just opening her studio “Whistler Pilates” in her home in Alpine. I wanted to meet her and check things out before I paid for any classes.

Well....Louise was welcoming and knowledgeable. The equipment was first-class and brand new. This experience was about to become a life changer for me! Louise is one of the MOST AMAZING teachers that you could wish for. Her years of training, learning, and experience shine through. She can always come up with ways and words that enable her students to succeed. Since my first session 10 years ago at Whistler Pilates with Louise, I have continued to practise Pilates each week and I have been a regular at the studio (and Zoom during this pandemic). I have watched the studio grow, with a lineup of some incredible instructors and the addition of more state of the art equipment. Something for every body!

My favourite thing – Seeing and feeling the difference in my body (and even my mind), working out with others that have a love for Pilates, and meeting new friends that are like-minded.

I have not become bored with Pilates as there is always something different. The exercises you know change as you become more proficient. Working harder, deeper, slower, changes all the time. Listening to your body and knowing what is right for you on any given day. I feel so much stronger and more balanced since I have been doing Pilates regulary. Walking on the snow and ice, I have saved myself from falling more than once by having a strong core. I feel more energized
and much stronger overall after taking a session.

Once you have the basics, you can take this on the road with you and without any equipment enjoy a great workout. Every time I do this, I can hear some of Louise's cues that help me along the way.

Thank you so much Louise for being you! I wish you another 10 X 10 years of continued success in your studio!! I appreciate everything that you have done for me!!”
