The Whitby Curling Club is heartbroken with the passing of Paul Smith, a longtime member, friend and supporter of the game.
Paul's greatest contribution to the club came when he stepped forward to sponsor the M&M Meats Bonspiel, an event that quickly grew into one of the premier competitions on the club's calendar. Thanks to Paul's vision, enthusiasm, and generosity, the bonspiel attracted some of the biggest names in curling and brought excitement, prestige, and unforgettable moments to the Whitby Curling Club. His efforts helped put Whitby on the map within the curling community and created memories that will last for generations of curlers.
Those who knew Paul know that his legacy extends far beyond sponsorships and bonspiels. He was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed the camaraderie that makes curling so special. Whether he was on the ice, in the lounge after a game, or sharing stories with friends, Paul had a way of bringing people together. He loved to joke around, share a laugh, and make everyone feel welcome. The conversations around the table after a game were often just as important to him as the game itself. He helped make the Whitby Curling Club a place where people wanted to be.
He will be remembered for his smile, his laughter, his support of the club he loved, and the many friendships he built over the years. His contributions to curling in Whitby will not be forgotten, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We send our condolences to his family and friends.
Good Curling, Paul.

It is with deep gratitude that we celebrate the remarkable life of Don Sutton, who passed away at the age of 103. Don lived a life with laughter, friendship, family, and community, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to be felt for generations.
A long time member of the Whitby Curling Club, Don was one of the club’s great characters. Whether in the lounge sharing stories, offering perfectly timed words of wisdom, or out on the ice delivering another brilliant shot, Don had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. He was funny, quick-witted, and always seemed to know exactly the right advice to give at exactly the right moment.
Curling was one of Don’s great passions, and he was a fierce competitor on the ice, respected by teammates and opponents alike.
Off the ice, he built friendships that lasted decades and helped shape the spirit and community of the club he loved so dearly.
Don’s greatest pride was his family. He raised a family whose roots and contributions became a huge part of the Whitby Curling Club, and continues with his grandson Nathan at Oshawa Curling Club.
Perhaps what people will remember most about Don was the joy he found in life’s everyday moments. He appreciated good company, a good laugh, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by people he cared about. His positivity, warmth, and sense of humour never faded.
His stories, laughter, and spirit will live on in every game played, every conversation shared around the club, and every piece of advice passed from one generation to the next.
Our condolences to his family and friends.
Good Curling, Don.
