It was great to see some of our Starskaters back on the ice tonight as we kicked off a new skating season!

Here’s to another year of hard work, progress, friendships, and plenty of great moments on the ice. We’re looking forward to everything the 2026–2027 season has in store!

⛸️ Dress for Success at STARSkate! ⭐

As skaters progress into STARSkate, what they wear becomes an important part of being prepared and ready to train.

Choose fitted, flexible clothing that keeps skaters warm without restricting movement. Dressing in layers makes it easy to adjust as they warm up during their session, while fitted skating wear allows coaches to clearly see body position, alignment and technique.

Hair should be neatly tied back and secure, and one pair of thin socks or skating tights will help ensure a comfortable fit inside the skate.

And don't forget the skates! ⛸️ Properly fitted figure skates with good ankle support are important as skaters begin working on more advanced skills.

Skate guards will also protect those carefully sharpened blades when walking off the ice.

Good skating habits start with arriving prepared, comfortable and ready to learn.

⛸️ Getting Ready for CanSkate!

A comfortable skater is a happy skater — and what they wear can make a difference!

While arenas can feel cool from the stands, skaters generate plenty of heat once they're active on the ice. Dressing in several heavy layers can actually make skating more difficult and leave kids hot and uncomfortable.

For CanSkate, think light, fitted and flexible. Clothing should keep skaters warm while still making it easy to bend their knees, move freely and get up and down from the ice.

🧦 A quick sock tip: One pair of thin socks is all they need. Extra-thick socks can take up valuable space inside the skate and affect the fit.

ATTENTION! PROGRAM ASSISTANT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

A Program Assistant is typically a StarSkate skater who volunteers their time to support our Coaches on the PreCanskate and Canskate programs.

Program Assistants play an important role in creating a positive and welcoming learning environment by helping skaters find their groups, assist in activities, completing assigned tasks, and encouraging younger skaters to develop their skills on the ice.

REQUIREMENTS:
- must be min. 12 years old
- be registered currently in a SSC Intermediate or Senior program
- completed at least 3 Starskate assessments

Program Assistants will receive volunteer hours that count towards their high school diploma.

There will be a TRAINING SESSION on Tuesday Sept 15, 2026 from 6:25pm-7:15pm.
