As if I didn’t have enough projects planned already.
A whole lot of different pieces, coming not so soon to The Shop Next Door

So I opened up a pair of jeans in eight spots, both sides, front and back and both legs, front and back down the middle. Next, I took eight silk ties, lined them with fusible interfacing and cut them into triangles. Then sewed them in.
Turned a pair of Levi’s jeans into a cute midi skirt. I tried it on to model, but it’s really tight and not so flattering. That’s why you get the photos of it lying on the table. I need a model. Or a mannequin. Meanwhile, here you go, my latest up cycle. Coming soon to The Shop Next Door

We just returned from another wonderful visit to Haida Gwaii. Went out on a zodiac excursion and a visit to an old Haida Village. We got so lucky with the weather. It was a beautiful few days. Grateful to be able to do this.

This little dress came in a bag of other clothes at a clothing swap. I just had to claim it and reuse it.

Good morning, neighbors. It’s me again, Therese, from Sewsonew
and I just opened the doors at The Shop Next Door.

Every Sunday, I try to do a little bit of social media work on the local pages. I don’t always remember, and although I’m managing to bluff my way through the tech stuff, I’m not very good at it. But then, I’m not really taking this whole thing very seriously. Truly, it’s only just a little bit more than a hobby.

For those of you that don’t know, I’m a bit of an old girl, all retired from my big girl jobs and now I have a sewing room full of unloved clothing and beautiful gifted fabric as well as tons of ribbon, lace, notions, and trim waiting to be used up.

I try really hard not to buy anything at the secondhand shops, not always successful, but I’m on a mission to use up what I have in that sewing room whether it be by sewing up fabulous one of a kind outfits for you all to see or to use some of it for my own creations and then I’ll be gifting a lot of it away over the next little while. As it is, I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel just yet and I don’t want to be doing this in my 80s.

That being said, I struggle with pricing my items because I know the amount of time and effort that’s gone into it, but I also don’t want to charge so much that people don’t want to buy what I have here in the shop.

So I’m trying something new. Today while I’m in the shop, every one of my handmade pieces will be offered for a 20% discount.

Come on by for a visit at 1187 Johnson Road. If you get here before 2 PM, you can enjoy some delicious food next-door at the five corners Café.

OK I changed things up a little bit. I felt like the two front panels/legs needed a distraction. I think adding these strips of fabric works. I’ve seen only one side of them down so the other side will be flapping in the wind. Just for a little fun. We’ll see how that works.

So I tried something new. This time I turned a pair of jeans into a flowy midi skirt. There is no size tag inside these jeans, but the waist is roughly 27 inches so definitely size small. The inserts used to be an unloved little skirt that begged to be used again. I love the colour mix and the lightweight fabric. The only thing that bugs me is that when I look at the photo, it looks like a pair of jeans. Well, it used to be a pair of jeans so I guess that’s only fair. I might try something a little different with the next ones. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, these will soon be available .nextdoor

I did a little something more with that funky blue skirt I found in Germany. I created another pair of wide legged jeans and added a few of the pink curly cues from the skirt. While I was at it, I added some of the blue fabric to the jacket. Both pieces are size small so maybe they could be sold as a pair. They will be priced separately though. Coming soon to .nextdoor
