Missing the feeling of stepping out on stage š„²

I always love hearing about the progress my clients make š„°
āMy journey at NorthStar Fitness began while I was receiving exceptional treatment for a nerve/leg injury at Deezer-Raval Physiotherapy next door. For the past two years, I could not workout due to pain, and had started to lose hope that I would ever return to the gym and get strong again. The referral I received from Quentin to see Rebecca Franklin was absolutely pivotal in my fitness journey. The combination of his physiotherapy treatment and her personal training in the gym changed my life. Never had I found such success in the past with this old injury that only seemed to get worse overtime. My goal was to workout again and get stronger without dehabiliting nerve pain. Overtime, I was able to:
- Increase relatively pain-free workouts from once a week to 4x a week
- Lift increasingly heavier weights over time
- Squat and jump without pain
- Feel more empowered with tools for long-term pain management
- Start to run again
- Loose some extra weight at a sustainable rate
- Enjoy working out and finding more energy from doing it
Rebecca has a gift for meeting someone where they are at and assessing what their body needs at the moment. She always knew how to adjust things for me along the way to best meet the needs I had on a given day or week. I learned the importance of building sustainably for the long-haul rather than seeking a quick-fix.
I highly recommend seeing Rebecca at NorthStar Fitness and Quentin at Deezer-Raval Physiotherapy! Thank you for giving me hope and inspiration to continue pursuing the best version of myself.
Sincerely,
Danielleā

Being lean doesnāt mean youāre ābonyā.
Today I went to donate plasma. I knew there was the possibility of being rejected as a donor because I just made the weight requirement. Iām still leaner than I would normally be since my last competition.
When I got there, they sat me down to check my veins before getting into the rest of the process. She looked concerned and asked me about my weight. Being 5ā tall and 110 lbs, Iām used to the comments about being small so I knew it was coming. What I wasnāt expecting were all of the comments about how my arms are āall boneā and that āthereās nothing under my veins but boneā. I know she hadnāt said it maliciously, sheās just doing her job.
But these few minutes felt like an eternity, I was in a room filled with others donating. Iām not sure if they could hear what they were saying but I felt embarrassed and upset.
Iām sharing this story because as a trainer, Iām always aiming to help other women gain confidence in themselves. But Iām not perfect either. Hearing those comments brought me back to the time I had poor body image and felt insecure all the time.
I know how far Iāve come with my own confidence, but sometimes even the smallest thing can bring back previous feelings.
As tough as these types of situations can be, Iām grateful for them as I can relate to my clients and share my own experiences to help with their journeys.
Increasing self confidence and body image is a lot of work, and I will never stop working to improve my own.

Itās okay to not be the same weight as you were back in high school.
Iāve heard so many people beating themselves up about not being the same weight as they were 10 years ago or women wanting to get back to their āpre baby weightā
These arenāt by any means bad goals to have. I think we just need to change the narrative a bit. Set your goal to lose weight, but instead of comparing to your āpast selfā, do it for the health benefits, a better quality of life, the self-confidence.
Itās normal to have gained weight after you finished high school or university/ college.
Itās normal to have gained weight during your pregnancy.
Itās normal for your body to have changed over the years.
Lifestyles change. Priorities change. Bodies change.
Be kind to yourself.

Scared to lift weights because you think itāll make you bulky?
Almost every women I know has felt the same way at some point, myself included.
Thereās nothing to be scared about! Itās incredibly difficult to look bulky from lifting weights - as women, we have lower levels of testosterone which is necessary for muscle growth.
Resistance training will improve your overall physique, youāll feel stronger and everyday life will become easier!
Also, lifting heavy weights makes you feel like a badass š¤©

4 months difference!
Competing is a bigger mental game than it is physical.
There was so many times I had to remind myself to just keep pushing. It was just a few short months away.
Some days it felt easier than others, lots of energy and feeling motivated. But others not so much! I felt drained, constantly questioning if what I was doing was enough or if I was bringing my best āpackageā to the stage.
My goal was to just do better than last time, and I did! I went from 4th place to 2nd!
Hard work pays off šš»
