Flying Zambonis Hockey Club- "Built from the ice up"

During the third period of game on January 30,2024 sophomore was attacked by an opponent’s stick. If it weren’t for Kyle’s low skating stride this collision of stick at shoulder height of the opponent might not have met up with pearly whites. Sadly no call was made for high sticking but team dentist quickly fixes his million dollar smile and makes him as good as new!! Check out the brefore and after pics. Time for a bubble/ cage ?

After spending 4 years playing junior hockey with various teams including the Winnipeg Blues, West Kelowna Warriors, and Madison Capitols and finishing his career playing 2 seasons of NCAA Div 1 hockey for the University of Niagara, the Zambonis are extremely pleased to sign Stephen Kleysen! This 6’0” 215lbs smooth skating defensemen is a welcomed addition to the D core adding more offence to the back end. Although he is still adjusting to the new pace of play, he was able to make an impact last game scoring 1 goal and getting an assist! Stephen is joining the Zambonis by way of AGM as a a last minute addition to bolster up the blue line.

The addition of Stephen to our blue line adds some youth and gives some of our more veteran forwards peace of mind that we are safe not to back check as hard when it’s an odd man situation. He has the makings of being a Zambonis legend and will be a staple on the blueline for years to come. By way of free agency, current GM and AGM , are happy to announce the signing of ! This 5’8” 165lbs forward spent most of his career in the minors of A1 hockey but has recently been sharpening his skills on the out door rinks of Winnipeg and is ready to make the jump to the big leagues! “With the addition of Kyle, we are finally able to fully fill our 2022/2023 roster. Kyle will help bolster up our front end and add some young depth to our forwards. I’m looking forward to seeing Kyle grow as a player and take on a larger role within the Zambonis organization.” - GM

After playing 4 seasons with the MJHL Blues and sampling other adult leagues around the province, newest signing, Ryan Mutch, has finally found his forever home with our organization after our new AGM () was able to sign him. This 5’11” 181 lb Dman styles most of his game play after the legendary Oiler Ryan Smyth. Despite not being a forward, he adds offensive value from the back end.
“Signing Ryan has added some essential depth to our back end. Being a team that is ‘built from the ice up’ we take that same approach and built our team from the net out. Goaltending and defence is what wins championships which is why we as a management team thought signing someone like Ryan would lead to the teams success this year and for many years to come. His offensive flair will be a great asset to the team as we try to fill not only the holes in our heart but in our line up since losing offensive threats like ‘the Mercier’s’( this season and last year .” - Current GM

After an illustrious playing career with the Brandon Wheat Kings, Swift Current Broncos, Steinbach Pistons and most recently the Grunthal Red Wings the soon to be GM along with soon to be AGM put pen to paper signing Mark Taraschuk on a long term deal! This 6’0” 200lbs offensive D-man adds a much needed offensive flair as he transitions to his new role as a forward.
“As we are losing one of top offensive threats at the end of October due to a relocation issue, the club was forced to team fill a massive offensive hole in our line up. After a PTO and putting up 6 points with the team last year in one game, I think Mark might just be a big part of the puzzle in filling that hole.” - Current GM Michael Stoller

After spending 4 years playing with the MJHL for the Blues and ending his career with the Grunthal Red Wings, the are extremely pleased to sign Joel MacGillvary! This 5’8” 165lbs skilled forward hails from the legendary Manitoba hockey family having the famous Don MacGillvary (the previous coach of U of M, Winnipeg Blues and current coach of the Brandon Wheat Kinds) as his father. Joining the Zambonis by way of AGM as a reoccurring sub has now decided to make it official and sign full time.

Breaking news from the Flying Zambonis Hockey club. Seems like yesterday we signed you but defensemen has decided to hang it up. This tower of strength is one of the best D man down low ( impossible to strip the puck off of ) and was so versatile to the club, he could be a power forward as well - long reach - strong like ox- the hole will never be filled. Enjoy retirement and lake life!
