Last night's recovery session was about anchor rituals and cue words.
The finishing touch was an ๐ฒ๐

which directs attention towards something outside of the body, such as a visual target or an external cue, rather than internal sensations, thoughts or breathing.
Here are just a couple of benefits:
โ
Better attentional control - we can help athletes to deliberately shift and hold attention, which is useful when distractions are high.
โ
Improved performance focus - we can encourage attention on the task or the target rather than overthinking technique.
โ
Less internal chatter - we can reduce excessive self-monitoring and performance related anxiety.
โ
Stress regulation - we can use an externally focused meditation to help athletes manage the stress after mistakes.
The goal is to shift attention from the 'me' and my mistakes, to the game and the task at hand.
