Sopilka Ukrainian Dance School has been in operation since 1971. Initially the school was called the South Winnipeg School of Dance.
The Sopilka Ukrainian Dance School was founded in 1971, under the direction of Vicky Adams, as part of a Ukrainian language program at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Parish. Several years later the name was changed to Sopilka (Sopilka: Ukrainian woodwind folk instrument). Over the years Sopilka has continued to flourish, by proudly preserving Ukrainian culture through dance.

It's not often you can see performances by our Winnipeg Ukrainian dance companies and schools take the same stage - all while supporting humanitarian aid in Ukraine through the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.

Happy International Day of Dance! 🩰✨
Today, we join the world in celebrating the universal language of movement, but we’re doing it with a special Sopilka flair! 🇺🇦
From the first steps of our youngest dancers to the gravity-defying leaps of our seniors, dance is more than just a performance for us—it’s how we honor our heritage, share our stories, and keep the vibrant spirit of Ukraine alive.
Whether it’s the precision of a Poltava, the energy of a Hopak, or the grace of a lyrical piece, our dancers pour their hearts onto the stage every single time they put on their boots.
To our incredible dancers, dedicated instructors, and supportive families: thank you for keeping our culture dancing!

I think we can all agree - those in attendance last night were treated to a recital on a different calibre.

🐞🦋🐝🕸 Sweetest little Ladybugs, elegant Butterflies, shimmering Dragonflies, acrobatic Spiders, delicate Hummingbirds, buzzing Bees, who knew Grasshoppers could dance - who all prepared for a celebration
👰🤵 a wedding between a mosquito and a fly, celebrating with their friends
🔥little fireflies who danced their little feet off !
🐐 🌷celebrated traditions of Malanka and Spring
👏🏻witnessed award-winning choreography and capped off the evening with each ensemble presenting a Hopak
Reminder that classes for today (April 19th are cancelled) but classes resume Monday April 20th. Photos will be handed out, and costume return the following week.
