SPN Manitoba proudly announces the final inductee into the Class of 2026 Field of Dreams Hall of Fame in the Builder Category….

Mr. Kent Kamenz

The induction of Kent into the SPN Manitoba Field of Dreams Hall of Fame feels less like an announcement and more like a necessity. After much convincing, Kent has finally accepted his nomination — an honour that is long overdue.

To say Kent deserves this recognition would be an understatement. In many ways, he is the reason this Hall of Fame exists at all. Few people have had a greater impact on what SPN Manitoba and this program have become over the years.

For the last 25 years as Regional Director of SPN Manitoba, Kent’s passion for slo-pitch in Manitoba has been unmatched. While many see the tournaments, the games, and the finished product, few truly understand the countless hours of work that happen behind the scenes. Kent has dedicated decades to growing the game, creating opportunities, improving the player experience, and ensuring everything runs smoothly — all for one reason: his LOVE FOR THE SPORT!

Leadership, dedication, and passion are words often overused, but in Kent’s case, they fit perfectly. His impact on Manitoba slo-pitch cannot be measured solely by years of service or accomplishments. It is reflected in the players, teams, friendships, and community he has helped build along the way.

The Class of 2026 welcomes someone who has already spent decades building a Hall of Fame legacy.

Congratulations, Kent, this honour is truly deserved!

SPN Manitoba is proud to announce as our 4th inductee into the Class of 2026 Field of Dreams Hall of Fame in the Player Category….

Mr. Gary Ellis.

Gary has been a staple to Manitoba Slopitch for 30 plus years and was always found on a diamond during the week and most weekends. Gary has played in several National Championships and too many to count Provincial Championships over those years as well as Canadians and several major tournaments. He is a great definition of “for the love of the game” with his competitiveness on the field and his cheerful smile and socialism off the field.

In recent years, Gary became an SPN umpire as well as continuing to play when he can up to 3 nights a week and still the odd tournament. Gary's level of umpiring included being one of the 4 umpires chosen to do the finals during the World Police and Fire Games a few years back.

Gary is a prime example of an individual who has earned the respect of many in this game of slopitch and encouraged others to make it a better game.

Congratulations Gary!

SPN Manitoba is proud to announce our 3rd inductee into the Class of 2026 Field of Dreams Hall of Fame in the Builders Category:

Mr. Scott Neiles

Scott is widely recognized not only for his contributions to the game of slo-pitch, but for his impact on baseball and softball throughout both Manitoba and across Canada.

Scott’s passion for the game began through his own playing career, which saw him compete professionally in baseball around the world. He later spent six seasons coaching the Winnipeg Goldeyes and was also directly involved in the development and opening of the Home Run Sports Training Centre.

For the past 15 years, Scott has dedicated himself to coaching softball and has proudly watched both of his daughters continue their own journeys by playing college softball in the United States.

Always willing to lend a helping hand, Scott has consistently volunteered his time through camps, clinics, and lessons. He currently coaches high school baseball, helping young athletes develop their skills and reach the highest level of competition possible. Beyond teaching the game itself, Scott’s goal has always been to instill a lifelong passion for the sport and inspire players to remain involved in the game long after their fastball careers have ended.

Alongside his wife Carla, Scott was an owner and driving force behind Home Run Sports, providing Winnipeg—and ultimately Canada—with something the baseball and softball community truly needed: a dedicated retail destination focused exclusively on the sport. Home Run Sports also has provided SPN Manitoba a place to call home for our office for the last 15 years.

Scott has been a major influence, volunteer, and leader within the sport in this province and beyond. He has served as a Board Director with Softball Manitoba and currently serves as President of Softball Canada.

Scott’s passion, dedication, and commitment to growing the game have made a lasting impact on countless athletes and communities.

Congratulations, Scott!
